Your right and at least your here to ask whether it's a shot to try or not ,hopefully by the replies that you've recieved you'll know that it's NOT a shot to try with a bow .

I think it's unethical.
About 8 years ago my aunt (has never been able to shoot straight....think she gets deer fever) shot at a doe, hit her in the head and shot her nose/mouth off. Anyways, another hunter saw the doe running around 2 weeks later! and was just skin and bones. A game warden had to come out and dispatch her, thankfully. Things like this really piss me off and that's why I always try to take a clean shot.

First of all, I would only take that shot with a rifle on a standing, alert deer. When I was running a check in station I saw a lot of deer with horrible wounds from bad shots that had lived and suffered. We all respect the animals enough to ever take a bad shot, so if the deer is not dead still that is not a good shot to take.

I never would.
One time I saw a deer run passed my stand whose jaw was basically just hanging off. My brother put a slug in the animal to end the job. No one came and claimed it from across the road where it more than likely came from, so he tagged it. It was a sad sight.

For any of you that would even consider shooting a deer in the head, no matter what weapon used, unless it was to save yourself or someone else from harms way, It honestly makes me sick.
I don't care if you can shoot a flying dime at 300 yards, what if you hit a small limb or if something alters your shot for whatever reason, is it really worth taking a deer's jaw or snout off, to walk around for days until facing death? Please, just simply wait for a clean shot at the vitals, do us all a favor. For those of you that do these type of things in the woods, shooting deer in the head, etc. Hunting will ultimately find its final detriment because of you.

Interesting to see hunters turn on each other for taking legal shots at deer, isn't it ?
LOL you guys crack me up. Seriously. If you canmake the shot, take it.If that shot is 80 yards, frontal, through the brush, when thedeer isquartering to, a liver shot, a femoral artery shot ............ if you can make it, take it, if you can't, don't.
And there aren't any laws een defining that, is there ?
What do you guys want ? Laws saying you can't take any shot other than broadside ? Laws saying you have to have a certain sharpness on broadheads ? Laws saying you can't shoot over certain yardages, certain angles, maybe a law saying you can't shoot at a moving deer or an "alert" deer ?
How many threads so far this year on deer being lost to broadside shots ?
Ya'll want to talk ethics ? Good gawd ........... each of you are unethical in other peoples eyes. Its all based on perspective.
Would I take a head shot on a deer ? I wouldn't ........ I prefer head shots if I'm rifle hunting which is rare nowdays.
