BOOM, head shot?
i saw someone who shot this really nice buck in the head, he said he shot and it died instantly, its whole entire face was compltely messed up,
i was just wondering, why dont people take this shot more often,? i can understand if your going to mount the head, but a head shot seems like an insant any painless death?

Cuz it dosent always work!!!
My uncle shot a doe 2 years ago in the head (right between the eyes) with a crossbow and it just fell down and sat there wobbleing its head.
Long story short ended up having to use a second arrow.

Why in the hell would anyone do that. Instantaneous death comes from a shot to the brain which is the size of a tangerine covered in thick bone. If someone takes a head shot on purpose,he needshis examined, causehe ain't right.

Well this is my stance on it... YOU"D HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT to take that shot. Too easy for the deer to move it's head. I've seen it done, when I was younger, but if the deer move it's head just a little it's going to hit the jaw, or the lower neck or the nose. The head moves way too much to shoot there. Again this is just my opinion

I'm assuming this thread was refering to gun hunting or at least I hope it is and it doesn't belong in a bowhunting forum because like was said above the head is a horrible idea with a bow, bad with a gun. What happens when the shot is off it's mark a couple inches and does nothing more than remove the bottom jaw. Death is certain but it's a horrible one. The heart/lung area is the only area someone should be aiming for regardless of weapon.

Since we are in a bow hunting forum, I'm assuming we're talking about shooting a deer in the head with an arrow. If so, I'd say that is a very bad idea.
However, I have shot two deer in the head, killing them instantly with my 30.06.

I saw a doe mule deer that was shot in the head with an arrow. She was killed by a follow on shot. The death was anything but immediate. Terrible idea to take that shot. I would not hunt with anyone who would take that shot.
