Default Squirrels?

I've had several unsucessful hunts this season. During day lightI see absolutey no deer. Before the sun comes up and usually after dark I see them but its way to dark to take a shot. The deer are moving during the day, I see them feeding on Sunday's in our fields. I'm wondering if the squirrels making all the noise in the dry leaves is running the deer out of the woods during the day. Anybody having this problem?

I see a ton of squirrels during hunts and they don't seem to affect it too much. If they start barking alot, then the deer may think something is awry, but otherwise I think the deer are used to them.

Actually I think it's the other way around, sometimes I know the deer are coming because the squirrel's scatter.

I've seen hundreds of deer/squirrel (non)interactionsfrom the tree stand. Only onetime didadoe freak out at a squirrel climbing up a tree, and it was right after the end of our MD two week shotgun season. This doe was wired so tight at every noise, I thought she was going to have a nervous breakdown. She jumped and darted to and fro, tostare at this squirrel every time he made a move;odd, because the squirrel was in plain view of both of us.Finally, she couldn't take it anymore and bolted - a real basket case. I thought she was a prime candidate for jumping the string, so I gave her a pass and just watched the show...
Otherwise, deer pretty much ignore squirrels and their noise.Ihave even used a squirrel bark to relaxdeer after they have spottedmy out-of-place blobin a tree. The barkhas worked well over the years. I have considered taking a squirrel "puppet" up a tree with me and "flagging" its tail, just to add to the ruse.

Not just you. When the squirrels are out, usually neither are the deer. I had a doe chase a squirrel up a tree 6 yards from me last Friday evening. It was pretty neat to watch.

Also remember that deer and squirrels share a love of acorns. So, if there are a lot of squirrels, there should also be deer.
