Will the rut start early because of weather?
#32
I said yes......but I don't think it will get completly underway until the regular time. I have already seen and heard reports of bucks chasing does the first week of October this year.
A local archery shop and taxidermist have had people saying that they have seen bucks scraping, rubbing, and chasing does on cold nights. I saw a decent size (130 class) 8 point jump up and chase a doe around for about 5 minutes before making a scrape then running off.

I should have reworded it to "will the bucks start chasing early because of eather" ... but this is why I posted this, because it really is a disputable topic...

If it's hot the does won't be moving much durring the day so you won't see as much buck activity. The rut is controled by the amount of daylight in a day which triggers a doe to go into heat. So I'm told.

Not ANY earlier. It has nothing to do with the temps. Sure, you may see more movement in cooler weather, but that has nothing to do with the rut.

Not to much earlier. Things other than temp will cause the rut. Amount of light is a big factor, but cool weather will help trigger it.

I'm not sure about the question but I do know that they are definitly chasing here in PA. I saw a real nice buck chasing a doe while spotlighting this past week.

I believe the doe's come in by the shortness of daylight reguardless of temperture but you will see more rubbing and scraping activity after cold fronts move through.
