The 8' is a special situation. It's a tree in a really ideal spot where I see deer almost every time I’m in the tree. I call the spot “The Mall” because the deer love to walk around that spot and on several occasions I’ve seen multiple groups of deer come there from different directions, and they like to mill around there (like kids in a shopping mall). The tree is in almost the middle of the Mall and it has ideal cover at 8’. If I were to move higher, I would be exposed where I didn’t want to be and would have fewer shooting lanes (ironically). Also, the deer are almost always coming from either downhill (which means I’m actually more than 8’ above them) or across the hill where I have great cover and can often see them moving uphill before they get in range.

I usually set up between 12’ and 16’.

I like the 20-25 foot range, although my ladder stand is only 17 feet.

15 - 17 feet has worked fine for me- high enough to keep you out of a deer's line of sight, but low enough to give you a good shot angle and not scare the crap out of you when it's windy.

20 feet is the highest I always go in my climber, I would get a 20ft rope to pull my gun or bow up with and when my rope is pulled tight, thats when i stop

I usually get up around 20 feet or so above the sight of the deer. If its a ridge and the deer are coming from the down side then 10 feet up the tree might be plenty, vice versa if the deer are coming from the top. In some cases if you find the right tree 30 feet could be your best height.... just keep looking up until you get there!!!
