Putting up fixed position stand so bottom won't slide out
I have two fixed position stands that have a chain that goes around the tree and onto a hook on the stand behind the seat, and two angle aluminum squares thatare supposed todig into the treebelow the platform.
However, if you step on this stand, the platform could easily tilt andslide away from the tree, causing you tofall. I found that at a minimum, it needs a ratchet strap tohold the standfast to the tree between the seat and platform. It seems to me that the angle aluminum should have a small metal plateat its edge (where it meets the tree), running down with holes in it so you can BOLTit to the tree.
Have any of you had similar problems with fixed position stands? It is beyond me why they would make such stands that are potentially this dangerous during this age of lawsuits, etc.

I always use at least 1 additional ratchet strap on any fixed stand. I just want to be sure its not going anywhere. I've never had one slip on me and I want to keep it that way.

RE: Putting up fixed position stand so bottom won't slide out
I bought two of those cheap $30 stands that they are selling at Dick's Sporting Goods and it comes with on rachet strap and pull strap. The pull strap gave way in about 30 seconds and I fell to the ground. I was only 1.5' off the ground luckily. I added another rachet strap and it is completely secure.
I think someone that isn't careful will end up hurt this hunting season out of that stand. I just don't want it to be me.
Use a rachet strap and if you want to be sure use a couple.

API makes a heavy duty rachet strap for hang on stands that are made out of the same stuff they make seat belts out of. They are rather expensive, but it beats falling out of a tree.

Thanks guys! The aluminum angle isn't biting into the tree. I used the ratchet strap and also nails right where the aluminum angle meets the tree to try keeping it from sliding.
I don't recall the kind of treestand. They are comfortable, I'm just surprised they didn't give me the stuff to make it safe!
