bedding area
I've stumbled across a big bedding area on some new property I'm hunting this year. I'm somewhat new to bowhunting, so I need some feedback as far as how close I should hunt to it. There are trails going in and out of it, but they are distinct for only so far. Suggestions?

RE: bedding area
I found my favorite early seasonarea to hunt last year and it invloves a bedding area. Year after year big bucks bed in this same area. I set a stand about 100 yrds away from the bedding area. As a general rule the wind is usually blows in my favor. If not I don't hunt the stand. A long story short, I put myself as close to the bedding area as possible with out spooking themand between the major food source. I ended up taking a nice buck on Oct 17th of last year. Thats the earliest I have seen a mature buck out of the stand. Taken and seen many mature bucks but usally after Nov. 1st.

Yes put a stand right in the middle of it, and only hunt it during the rut.
Get to the stand 2 hours before shooting time, I have shot my best bucks with this setup. Make sure you can get to the stand without spooking any deer!!!!

RE: bedding area
If you find the nearest best food source. Get between it and the bedding area. Or it in during the rut like ghemry said. And set up 2 or 3 stands in case the wind changes. So you can hunt the wind at all times.

RE: bedding area
I would put a stand near one of those trails coming out of that area, do a little more scouting and see if you can find a good food source.
If you can get in between the two areas with out spooking or getting busted , it could turn out to be a good ambush spot.
Good luck and have safe season.
