most hated tv hunting scenario
#11
OH where to start on this one. Id say first rifle hunts. I hate rifle hunts. To me shooting a deer at 300 yards is ridiculus. I know some of you are rifle hunters, but I still dont see what the big deal is shooting something at 300 yards more or less. I earn my deer and try to get as up close and personal as I can. Next baited Bear Hunts. Anything with dogs on bigger game, bears, mt lions etc... Also when the hunter is walking up to the deer they shot. No tongue sticking out. Not realistic to me. So what if the tongue is sticking out. Also Terry Dury sayingsuch and suchshot a big pig when it was a deer that was shot. And dont let me forget Ted doing his savoy talk while hunting, Also the girls with all the makeup hunting. Divas show I dont like at all. Oh I could go on and on. On a positive note. I enjoy watching Will Primos and my favorite Michael Waddell.

ok, it's kind of a skew from the 'most hated phrases' thread, but this really got under my skin.
the worst... half a dozen guys in a pickup truck drive into an area where they know there are bears frequently. they set loose a few dogs which get on the bear's trail and chase it down and tree it. the dogs are barking wildly, which is the cue for the 'hunters' to leave the truck. all these people go walking into the woods in their blue jeans or shorts and follow the dogs barking sounds. they find this bear up a tree, and some dude shoots it with his bow and watches it fall to the ground then goes and claims it. and of course it was just an awesome hunt and such a challenge and the guy is so happy and proud of his first bow-kill bear.
why do they even allow things like this to air as 'hunting shows'???

Others have talked about hunting mt. lions with hounds so let me ask this have you every seen a mt. lion in the wild in the season? I haven't and I don't think I ever will. Mt. lions kill alot of game each year just to survive and worst of all alot of the kills are bucks that are tired from the rut, so they must be controlled.
Although I completly agree with Rob/PA Bowyer, Copper31, atlasman, atlasman and the comments they made.
I am a proud trapper, hunter, fisherman and overall outdoorsman and as long as it is legal I will be for it and if I ever got the chance I would hunt bears with hounds or over bait, and mt. lions with hounds. Remember its not about doing somthing the hardest way or getting that record book animal although it is a great bonus but it is realy about being in the outdoors and having fun with the time you have.

I hate when all the guys on the shows compare the challenge of bowhunting to inline muzzle-loading. They say that people that want to try bowhunting should try muzzleloading because your shots are limited. What a joke! Inline muzzleloading is nothing like bowhunting.

I don't like it when they show deer eating shelled corn off the ground and harvesting the deer. Don't like box blinds (just a personal objection). Can't stand the 'canned' shots where the hunter walks up to the deer surprised. (I know they're trying to capture their emotion but most of us know the deer has already been found and every point has been counted. And the no. 1 pet peave I have is when they show the deer falling down or flailing (sp?) aroundafter the shot. The reason I object to this is b/c of the audience that is non-hunting. If they were to flip through the channels and saw this, then I'm sure they partially see hunting in a negative light and believe that us hunters want to see the animal dying right on TV. Don't get me wrong though, that is what happens in reality...I'm just trying to see it through another's eyes.

Ok, first of all tmcj, Have you ever hunted bears with hounds? But before you read the rest it only applys if you wish to get rid of hunting with hounds, every one has an opion and thats fine with me. I myself have NOT hunted bears with hound so I will not discriminate against it but even if I did I still would not, no matter what. I figure it like this, what if the anti's were succesful at getting rid of hunting with hounds would you be happy?if so do you think they would stop there? next would be the rifle hunters, next the muzzle loaders and finnaly bow hunters. Would you be happy then? I know that I sure wouldn't. Now don't get me wrong bow hunting is the most challenging of all but that dosen't mean that bow hunters should be against other hunters, we are all hunters thats, that. Its like saying I'm better then you.

The African Safari on OLN sucks more than anything else:
Two rich white guys drive around in a truck with 3 African tribesman looking at hundreds of animals who are not alarmed at all by the truck. Spot the one you want, get out, walk up to the animal who looks at you the whole time (what a stalk!). Get out your shooting sticks and high powered rifle as the animal watches you. The guide tells you the exact distance. You shoot (usually a gut shot) and the animal runs. The three African tribesman track the wounded animal for you. You arrive with the rifle for a follow up shot. Your guide and the three tribesman smile and shake hands with the great white hunter while you tell the camera how much danger you were in the entire time. Meanwhile the three black guys get to work gutting and quartering your "beast" for you.

This reminds me of one video that i watched a while ago where a guy was on a guided elk hunt during the rut and calls in a monster bull. He is hunting with a rifle, which I am not used to during the rut. The bull comes right into the call in a thick wooded area in just minutes. Not only does the bull come right into the call, but it is literally 15 feet from the hunter. The hunter leans around the tree, unclicks his safety (which can be heard on the camera and the camera is farther from the hunter than the elk), and the hunter shoots the elk with a high powered rifle. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but that just doesn't happen. To me, that's not hunting. Elk hunting during the rut to me consists of usually hours of calling just hoping for a 20 yard shot with a bow, where one little screw-up will cost you a shot, such as moving slightly or a small clicking noise. Its videos like this that make elk hunting look easy or unfair, and elk to be a stupid animal, which they are not. Anyone that was REALLY elk hunted knows this.

What really gets me mad is when these guys shoot a monster buck and say "Thats what its all about". What happened to spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors and just getting away and getting some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle. Thats what it is all about for me.
