I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. Honest, I'm 45 years old and picked up a guitar when I was 12. I started out on an acoustic all those years ago too.
-Fender Strat
-Ibanez SG copy (rewired with Dimarzio super distortions by me).
-Yamaha 12 string acoustic
-Takamine 6 string acoustic
...and a bunch of other instruments.

Ok, one more question... I'm lefty.. Should I get a left handed guitar or right handed... Some say i should get a right, so i can use my Left hand(dominant) for fretting.. While others say, get a lefty...
Whats the best way to go???

I have played off and on for about 12 years. First and foremost, unless you can read music, stay away from books (except maybe chord charts). If you can listen to music and play along with it or someone else playing, your playing will excel in leaps and bounds. That said, develop your ear. And by the way, the ovation is an excellent choice for a beginner or intermediate. I sold off all my good guitars for hunting. (DUMB) I had a SRV Stratocaster and 2 or 3 Ibanez Electrics. That is an extremely easy guitar to learn on(Ibanez) because of the flat Wizard neck. That guitar will scream.. Now... Let's get back to Bowhunting.

I just got a guitar and am trying to teach myself to play, but what makes it so hard is that im a lefty so anything i find on the internet i have to read backwards, kinda. I have an old Global guitar that my grandparents had and i had to have the string switched over and everything so i could play it.

I play a Martin D-28. I've always been an enthusiast....and I always will be.
I won't get into which instrument you should buy......ask around (like you're doing). I'm biased....but I won't put another company's instrument down.

Front porch picker here. Guitar and hammer dulcimer. Don't come to my camp unless you like bluegrass and traditional Celtic music.
Start acoustic, start inexpensive (rather than cheap), and forget the chord charts, CD'sand websites - find other people to play with - they're everywhere. The best and fastest way to learn is by sitting in with other players. It also helps you loosen up and shed those inhibitions. More fun, too.

I think the acoustic a good place to start... but it depends on what kind of music you want to play. As far as the manufacturer goes, it's pretty good advice to go and play a few guitars... if you know a few people with guitars the ask to play theirs... The more guitars you can get your hands on the better. I have a few guitars but each has its own function so to speak. Here is my little collection:
99' Martin DCX1E
04' Takamine EG523SC12 12-String
03' IbanezSZ320 Electric Guitar
and my crown jewel
06' FenderĀ® Custom-Built Eric Clapton Stratocaster Electric Guitar
Good luck with your search!
