I think you are getting solid advise, start with an acoustic. You really can't go wrong with a well made guitarno matter who the manufacture is. I will suggest though ifyou can afford it but a USA madeguitar, they are(IMO)better than most of the foreignacoustics out there. That's not to say the foreign'sare crap, it's just that they don't compare to USA made ones. Ovation is a great example, you canbuy theforeign made ones and they will sound ok, but compared to the USA Ovations it's night and day. Another plus for the Ovations is that you can plug them in as well. They sound fantastic either acoustic or electric. The newer ones even have built in tuners.

I have ownedmany guitars but now I only have three, allUSA made Ovations, twoacoustic and one solid body electric. The more you research the more you will learn about the quality of the wood and the type of bracing that is used to create a better sound. Good luck and don't give up.

1979 Ovation Custom Legend (acoustic/electric)
2005 Ovation 1771 LX (acoustic/electric)
1978 Ovation Preacher Deluxe (solid body electric) <---- This guitar rocks!!!
