While I am sure that scents work I have never felt like they brought deer infrom nowhere. Most of the time however if I was in a good place that the deer was traveling and had a sent out up wind of the deer it would stop and sniff and sometimes come to it. I count on finding the right area for the deer then add sent as another playing card.

as gibblet and a few others stated, go to their favorite spots instead of trying to lure them to you,it's a lot less work and you learn their travel corridors and have a good time doing it.

Definately a food plot. You can do it fairly cheap with a mower, a tiller, a rake, a broadcaster, and some seed. I usually spend about 40 bucks on a 50 pd bag of winter wheat, oats, and fertilizer. I cut the plot with my mower, till it, seed it, cover the seed with a rake and am good to go.

It takes me an afternoon. It's a bowhunting plot so it's only about 40 yards from my treestand at the furtherst spot, but it works. I saw more deer over that thing the first year I did it than I had from the same tree 5 years previously.

You might also see if a mineral block is considered bait. I bet...unfortunately for you it is.

Hey FroMan,if you had to hunt up here in NC, would you still use winter wheat and oats? And if you had my green thumb, that is to say, any plant I touch winds up dying, would you try a different crop?

Some good suggestions mentioned. Ifyou seriously want to attract more deer to the areayou're hunting then you should consider a small foodplot. A small "hunting plot" of only 1/4 to 1/2 acre and then a Mock Scrape or two along it's edge can be awesome! It's not to late to plant a quality fall plot and you'll have until sometime in September to get the job done. Something you should seriuosly consider if you really want to see an increase in deer utilization on your property.Good luck and good shootin'
