At close ranges you may get a pass through, but I wouldn't always count on it. With a cut to the tip you'd have better chances. It still should kill but once you start getting out and beyond 25 I'm not so sure.

Davidmil are you just trying to burst my bubble or what. You always have something negative to say about my posts. LOL I think I will have no problem with my setup. You see I can get deer within 20 yds of my stand without a problem. If I can sink a broadhead halfway thru a Morrell Yellowjacket at 25yds, I don't think I'll have a problem. I ain't like some of these guys who take unethical shots just to try and prove their bow is powerful and fast. Pffftt. I know women shooting less poundage than me and shorter draw length killing deer every season. Besides, I ain't like these dipsh*ts that spook more deer than they will ever see anyway.

I didn't say you couldn't kill deer, just that you might not be assured of a pass through as you stated. When I see something that is not as stated or counted on I have a tendancy to say so, like the fact you had over estimated your KE by a dozen foot pounds. I thought you should know. But, I have no problem saying have fun and hunt on. You can kill deer no doubt. Bad angles, a couple ribs, a little shoulder blade and things change. I love over kill. It makes them deader than dead.[8D][8D] Ok, how's this? You'll be just fine.....don't worry about it. Have fun.

Are deer ribs tougher than 3/4" rich lighter pine? I got complete pass thru's on that at 25 yds with field tips, much less a 3 blade broadhead. What kinda deer has ribs or shoulder blades tougher than that? Just what kind of KE does it take to pass through deer ribs, bones, ect? Not doubting you David, I know you have been around way longer than me. I am just a concerned hunter.

This is why david is our favorite non mod!

I think what he may be trying to say is that in a perfect world, you will have no trouble what so ever killing deer and blowing right through them. But, the world is an imperfect place, and crap happens. I shoot 74 pounds of KE and only got about 8" of penetration once. That was due to ribs and the offside shoulder blade. The blade on a deer is quite thick, and while you can punch through it w/ a good head, most times you just don't.

So, to maximize effectiveness on the imperfect shots, KE needs to be maximized to give us the little help we need for that situation. You hear the trad guys talk about it a lot, but that's because their equipment just doesn't have the power ours does. OK, before you trad guys jump my butt, let me say that I have a world of respect for ya. No way I could do it, I'm just not that good.

David was also just making sure you had the correct information you need to be the best bowhunter you can be. Alot of guys walk around w/ bows in hand and have ABSOLUTELY no idea what they are shooting, let alone the efficiency and so forth. One way to be the best you can be is to be is to have the correct information. He merely saw a discrepency and pointed it out, not intending to insinuate you didn't know what you're talking about.

Hey Mobow I was just ribbing David about the neg response and such. He's always pokin fun so I figured turnabout is fair play. LOL Anyway I respect the experience of you guys and all of your knowledge. (even yours Old Man David Ha Ha) You guys have probably forgotten more than I will ever know. This "is" my first bow "and" first season. I know I ain't no genius by far, but I am tryin to learn as much as I can about shooting, hunting, and my setup so that I will be an efficient hunter. That is why I took the time to go back and recalc. the KE after David pointed it out. I don't want to be wrong. I wanna know what I am shooting and what I am capable of with the rig I have. Thanks for all the response guys. One day I will owe you all a peanut butter and turnip green sandwich and a glass of grape kool aide.

Did someone say grape kool aid???? !! You have just said the majic words, my friend!!! That is my absolute favorite thing in the whole wide world!!! Followed very closely by cherry!! Great thing about the grape is that it makes your pooh green.....go figure.....[&:]

Anyway, many koodos to you for learning all you can.I've been at this for 15 years and I finally know enough to pass some along. You know what they say, when you stop learning, you've already quit. I just want some photos of that big freak nasty when you shoot him this fall!
