My wife started shooting a bow shortly after we were married. She won severial 3D tournaments.Going to the shoots was fun, hunting became another story. She was helpless, could not and would not use a treestand.I had to spend all of my time trying to set her up to hunt.It all became over bearing to a point that it was not fun anymore for me.
Once my first son was born, she stopped shooting.I miss the 3D shoots but have alot more fun hunting with out her.

Now the next thing to do is find one who will feild dress and butcher the game.
I was 13 and NOT into hunting but my Dad was. He came in one night with a nice deer and told me to get out there and help. I made the remark that I did not see why he couldn't do it by himself because any idiot could clean a deer. He handed me the knife and said "Nice to meet you idiot. Call me when you are finished." Then he walked off!!! Two lessons learned. One, keep your mouth shut when you are thirteen and are trying to get out of helping clean a deer. Two, a hacksaw or hatchet works really well when you are having to cut the bones betwen the back legs. (Actually, three lessons, the gut smells really bad if you happen to cut it open ... I am pretty sure this is the reason they invented the knife with the gut hook.) We now have a you kill it you clean it rule at my house. I instituted this before I started hunting last year so I was making out like a bandit -- till now. And don't think he did not hold me to it when I killed two hogs anda deer last year. Plus the squirrells. He helped with those because they are basically a two person job because of their size unless you have a squirrell cleaner (I am thinking we will be investing in one of those this year if I kill more than him again!).

Ihelp clear trails (I have the poison ivy to prove it),set up my own ground blind(I know the size of my a** and refuse to tempt God by hanging it off a tree in something attached with straps),clear other permanent stands on our property from wasps, and help with the planting of food plots. Now if my husband offers to do it for me I am not going to turn down his help but I am too proud to let him do all the work (pride goeth before poison ivy).

I guess we all do what we have to do and if you are having to do it all for someone can they really say they are hunting?

It doesn't matter if it's wife, girlfriend or just the neighbors wife. I think anytime you can get someone excited and into hunting it's a good thing for hunting and it has it's feel good properties. You have to realize up front that you loose some alone time, scouting time, tree time and free time, but you know that going in. I've been responsible for getting 3 kids that weren't my own into hunting(it's been a few years ago in Georgia). I got them shooting, helped them practice, hung some stands with them and was buy their side when the shot their first deer. It was a good feeling everytime. Just make sure your neighbor agrees with you taking his wife hunting.[8D]

I think that it is a great idea to get your wife/gf into shooting and posibly hunting with a bow. It would be something that oyu both enjoy plus she couldnt get mad when you buy those expensive hunting toys.

Great idea if you wife is like hoytgirl. She and HCH seem to have it figured out! All of us should be envious.

My wife really has not shown a big interest ......yet. She comes from a non hunting family and refused to eat red meat when we met.

OH how things have changed. If it don't bleed.....she ain't eatin it now. We eat deer meat at least 3 times per week and just b/c she loves the meat so much, she has actually started to show some interest, but she also puts more pressure on me to not come home empty handed.........

I'd not be opposed to introduce her to our deer camp. She could hang!! I'll let her decide if and when she wants to start. The fringe benefits would be nice though

We should all remember our friends at Archers Choice too. It is one of my favorite shows simply because I like the comaraderie they share.

My wife likes to go with me to camp, but does not hunt or shoot. She liked to pick Mountain Huckleberries when we lived in WA. It was all good, I like the time we get to spend in hunting camp together. She stayed 10 days in a tent while it rained when she was 5 months pregnant with our daughter.

Now my daughter is 5 and is complaining that she has to wait until 12 to hunt. She constantly wants to shoot her bow or the BB gun, so it's just a few more years 'til I've got a new hunting partner. I can't wait!

I am hoping that I can get my wife to start target shooting, so the three of us can go, but after the third ankle surgery, I don't think she'll be out in the woods with me.
