Anybody bowhunt from natural ground blinds?

My grandfather used to kill alot of deer from natural ground blinds. He'd dig a pit in the ground and pile up some leaves and branches around it. I'm going to give it a try this year to see how he did things back in the day (except he had a recurve). It seems more challenging and more exciting. Kind of like a more intimate, spiritual experience if you know what I mean. Anybody else do this?

I have killed a couple from natural ground blinds. I was really forced to hunt on the ground one season because of a broken leg. It made memore patient. I don't hunt on the ground very often. Most of my bow hunting takes place in a lock on. I've never hunted in a man made portable blind though.

I've tried hunting from natural blinds a few times, mostly whenI was a kid. It has been my experience that whitetaildeerwill noticethe slightest twitch of your butt musclefrom within bow range on the ground. Now mule deer I have had much better luck with, but that could be directly related to the amount of hunting pressure and not the species... maybe. It is fun though even when you don't get a shot to be that close on the ground. Perhaps that is all that matters.

I have tried it a couple times too. I had a real good stand a few years ago, but there were a couple days where the wind was wrong so I gave it a shot from the ground. Never killed anything, but definitely exciting!

I do all the time. We have plenty of tumble weeds around here. They make great ground blinds. You can make a tumble weed igloo if you like.

I have only taken deer from the ground so far. First buck I ever shot was an 8pt. I found some nice fresh scrapes in an area, sat up against a tree an hour later he walked up 10 yds away, I actually got to stand up and whistle an arrow through him. That deer had no idea what happened. Another year I had patterned a small 8pt along a field edge, so I sat 20 yds away tucked into some cedars, like clockwork he came past and went down. Mind you the past 2 yrs I have been skunked on the ground. Lots of close calls but I was either in to close and not been able to move or got busted. Nothing wrong with ground blinds at all, its pretty exciting being eye level and getting so close to them.

I've shot 3 deer hunting from natural ground blinds that consisted of nothing more than a small folding chair and some brush thrown around it.
I forgot my chair one time and hunting while sitting with my bum on the ground just wasn't going to work- I was way to figity and uncomfortable.
I dug in once making the ground low enough to allow my rump to sit on mother earth while my legs & feet were subterrainian. It was OK this way, but I didn't see anything.
