Looks like a coydog , wolf is unlikely in NJ unless somebody is missing one of those 97% wolf dogs .

Too small. Coyote. His head is half the size of the deer.

I'd say that's a coyote, they can reach pretty good size here in the east. I've seen a couple dead black ones, and that looks exactly like the ones I've seen.

I'd say coyote. I've read they come inall shades from almost all blond to black. It's my understanding that black ones aren't all that unusual.

COY-DOG For sure. We killed4 of them that my neighbors dog had sired. The reason I know he sired them is because I tried to shoothim off the back of the female when he was breeding her. He had a lucky day butlets just say thatnot all his days were so lucky. Around here they say thatcoy-dogs are sterile because of the cross breeding. No matter what they are pursued quite hardbecause they aren't scared to take anything. If you get a chance I would take him out because they are hard on wildlife and farm animals all the same. Shoot the deer were so scared around here before we hunted those four that you couldn't hardly see a deer without it being spooked and going 50 MPH.

I'm agreeing with game4lunch, my first impression is a dog.

I agree completely. It is more likely ablack coyote than a wolf. The only wolves that I have ever heard of in South Jersey are those that were domestically raised by registered owners. But Im definately not disagreeing that this could be just some mixed breed of dog.
