18 to 20 feet depending on how the terrain is around the stand and the available cover or limb structure in the tree my stand is in.I also do not like to go extremely high because of the sharper shot angle.

Dont like heights, I have 5 ladder stands, and not one of them are over 10'. And I have had plenty of chances at shooting a deer.

I used to hunt at 20 to 30 feet but backed it down to 15 feet this year. IMO you are less likely to get skylined at this height. Obviously all situations are different so in no way am I saying this is the best height all the time. I also like the shot angle better at 15' as compared to 25 or 30'.

My ladder stands are 15-20 feet.
My hang on is usually around 18 feet due to the steps.
My climber is usually around 23-25 feet.

I like 20-25'...enables me to get away with more noise/movement. Also at that height, I've noticed that even when deer do periodically spot me, they aren't panicked, and will normally stay in the area. Got busted by two doe this year, the were busy staring at me when two big 8s came in, and started showing off for the girls...never did leave the area until I put an arrow in the bigger of the two bucks...and then the only walked off slowly.
