Perfect Lightweight Portable Climbing System
#12
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I remember rope ladders being a real pain in the butt. I don' t know man, I think I'm going to stick with climbing sticks. Let me/us know how they work out though - please.

Like the previous posts have stated, how will you safely climb up the tree since it appears that the ladder will be against the tree? I will be interested in hearing the results of this because it could possibly be a good idea. How much do the rope ladders cost?

I would make dang sure I was hooked up to a full fall restraint system before I start up the tree with this gadget. It's really going to be a pain in the butt to climb with. As someone mentioned,...without some sort of standoff from the tree it's tough. SEcondly, I'd secure the bottom to keep the thing from swaying and swinging or blowing around or out and getting hung up leaving you with a delicate situation. To begin with, the Tree Seat is a true POS. It gets old after about 30 minutes. Get yourself a real stand and kill some deer. You're tinkering with gadgets for a mans job. I might see an application for these ladders once in a blue moon way back in spur of the moment and all that...but if I'm going there I'm going prepared anyway. What do these gadgets cost? PLUS... I think you'll find(unless you're 7 foot tall) that you won't get 13-14 feet from two of these in actual use. YOu have to beable to feed it through itself, around a tree, the bigger the harder and the less ladder you have. Then you get the first at max height, probably no higher than eyeball height when all is said and done. Now get to the top of it, try and hang from the tree on a ladder that's at best an accident waiting to dump you. Now try and reach way up to thread the second one... Whoaa Nellie....let me find a nice ground blind for today.[8D] If I persist I may get 10 feet on a shakey platform to try and hang a stand. I'm talking real stand, not a wedgy for my butt.

first's first's i am a rock climber and also a abseiler and i would recommend getting a proper climbing harness and some rope some caribeaners and a rappel device it will cost a little more but you are much safer plus every piece is tested all you would need is a
1climbing harness (sit harness or full body)
1 climbing rope about for a 10 yard tree you will need 20 yards of rope
some thing very secure to tie the rope to at the bottom (you will proboble have to put it there i recommmend a sport climbing ancor in no less than right up to the hook partwith a climbing adhesive holding it in)
1 repel device (figure 8)
1auto belay (i recommend petzlshunt)
what you will need is to put an ancor at the bottom of the tree tie the rope to it then over a strong branch (put an ancor up there to if you can) with the rope over the branch and on the ground tie yourself into the rope and using knots climb up the rope

Seriously though, if this works for you, run it.
