Is this possible??? Switchback vs. Allegiance!

To tell you the truth they BOTH look low speed wise…….

The mathews forum has an interesting way of back-calculating what the expected speed for your bow should be based on the IBO ratings (which we know are sortof junk to begin with but...)

trembow, that's good link to some useful information...
I wonder how many of the masses who shoot a 29" draw length (which I feel is by far more of the "norm" than anything out there...) and pull around 65 lbs. realize they just lost 20 fps off the listed IBO specs just right there!! [
]Throw in a hunting-weight arrow, add a brass nock, tie in a peep and add a couple string leeches, and it's no wonder so many people are discouraged the first time they shoot their bow through a chrono!!
You can use the following to work backwards off listed IBO specs, this will put you pretty darn close to chrono:
IBO Specs - 30" draw/70lb draw weight and a 350gr arrow.
For every inch of draw length you go down you will lose 10 FPS
For every 5# draw weight you go down you will lose 10 FPS
For every 3 grains of weight your arrow is over IBO ( 5 grains per pound) you will lose 1 FPS
For every 3 grains of weight you add to your string you will lose 1 FPS.

Thanks guys,
Matt, your right, I forgot to mention about how the screen registers bow speeds slower than they actually are. From everyone I have talked to who shoots this screen it is typically about 15 f.p.s. slow. That would mean my bow is actually shooting around 286-289 f.p.s. and his Switchback is actually shooting 276 f.p.s. to 278 f.p.s.
The thing is that when I figure it out, his SB should be shooting about 292-294 f.p.s. at 70#'s with his set-up.That means his bowis about 16 f.p.s. slower than what it should be.
We will be up at the shop on Tuesday so if we get up there early enough we will double check his draw weight on the bow scale as well as shoot through the actual chrono and see what kind of results we get.
Our buddy shooting a Hoyt TurboTec at 27" and 60" with a 25.5" Beman ICS Hunter 400 tipped with a 100 grain arrow was getting about 240 on the screen so his actual speed should be around 255.

I have a '05 Switchback set at 70# with 70# limbs. It has a 29"
draw length, the Barracuda Zebra strings that it came with,
1 Limbsaver string leech on each end and a loop tied on for my
release. I am shooting 28.5#BlackHawk Vapors 4000C, which are about
the same as the 5575 GoldTips, with 100 grain tips. I am also using
a Ripcord fall away rest. I shot it through a chronograph at the
pro shop and it averaged 288 fps. I know that it is not the fastest
bow but it is fast enough for me and it seemed to me to be
quieter and smoother than the Trycon or the Allegiance.

BuckMagnet, It has amazed me over the years how "your" friends always have the worst Mathews problems and the slowest speeds known to man !!
First of all he's going to lose about 8 fps with the WC over the Cuda strings ! Second............hopefully he got the WC without the x-coat or he'll never get it right ! Third..........as many Mathews posts as you have made over the years..............hopefully you know how to check the cam timing .............if so.... make sure his ATA is on and his cam timing is correct ! Verify his poundage and make sure his bow is tuned and it has good arrow flight ! His bow should be in the 292-294 range with the Cuda strings....................with the WC it should be more like 284-286 or real close !!
I would love to know the outcome of this !!

So, if a deer jumps your buddies string at 20 yds, he is going to jumps yours also. The stat is this
200 fps Deer jumps string, you would have to shoot over 700 fps to hit the deer. For hunting speed is a non factor(IMO). 3d and target is another story.

My dad's bigger than your dad!
My dog's smarter than your dog!
My car's faster than your car!
My truck can tow more than yours!
My mom's hotter than your....er...ah...forget I said that...
It doesn't matter what the subject is, we boys will always have these arguments.

CBM SC,
Actually go back and read some of my posts where I mention Mathews bows. I have stated that I think the Switchback is the best bow Mathews has come out with and I wouldn't mind owning one if it weren't for the grip which I dislike (my personal opinion). Also, the reason I asked this question was because I know his bow should be shooting faster than that, not putting down the speed of his bow. As far as the problems my two friends who have owned the SB have had, one got everything worked out and loves his, the other got rid of his for a Hoyt (which he has had a cracked limb with). It is still incredibly funny to me that anybody who owns a BowTech and discusses a Mathews bow is a hater.... fact is I have no problem with Mathews bows and if I was in the market for another hunting bow, I would test them out as well. Like I said, everything will be checked out on Tuesday and I will let everyone know the results.
Also, the slowest compound bow that any of my friends owns would be my girlfriends 05 BowTech Miranda. For a guy it is my buddy Kaseys old High Country that is getting a staggering 199 f.p.s.
P.S. Look back through some posts last year about Brads Switchback. I actually discussed how he had a super fast Switchback, with a identical set-up to my Allegiance, he was only about 4 feet per second below my speeds, and my speeds fell right in line with what they should be. It wouldn't have suprised me last year if his Switchback would have shot 320-322 f.p.s. with IBO specs. Not exactly the "slowest speeds known to man" that you claim.
ghemry,
Yeah, that is true, but that isn't the issue at all. My buddy was supprised to see his speed rating so low. He doesn't care about what kind of speed he is getting as he is drilling the bullseyes with his SB, he just doesn't understand why his speed is so low.
