Default Is this possible??? Switchback vs. Allegiance!

Hey guys,

Today my buddy and I were at the pro-shop for a screen shoot and decided to see how the speed of his Switchback compared to the speed of my Allegiance. Here are our set-ups.

Mine-- 2005 BowTech Allegiance, 30" draw length, 61# draw weight (70# max limbs back down), 28.5" Gold Tip XT 55/75's tipped with 100 grain field points, 3-4" Duravanes and EZE Crest Wraps. Total weight is 388 grains.

His--- 2005 Mathews Switchback, 30" draw length, 71# draw weight(70# max limbs maxed out), 29" Gold Tip XT 55/75's tipped with 100 grain field points, 3-4" Duravanes and EZE Crest Wraps. Total weight is 392 grains.

Both bows have a single brass nock on the string and a tied in Fletcher Tru Peep. Both bows have the STS system on them. My Allegiance has the factory strings and his Switchback has Winners Choice strings (installed two weeks ago).

We shot our bows and I was dumb-founded and shocked. These are the speeds we got....

My Allegiance.. 271.9 f.p.s., 272.4 f.p.s., and 274.3 f.p.s.

His Switchback.. 261.1 f.p.s., 262.9 f.p.s. and 263.2 f.p.s.

How does this work? My bow has a 12 f.p.s. faster IBO Speed, but our arrow weight is pretty dang near the same, our set-ups are pretty much identical, but my bow is shooting 10 f.p.s. faster than his with ten pounds less draw weight. This would mean that his S-Back would have an IBO speed somewhere of 285 f.p.s. The only thing we can think of is that maybe the guy at the pro-shop who replaced his strings backed his draw weight the whole way down and never cranked it back up, but he said the bow feels exactly the same while drawing. We didn't have time to put his bow on the scale this time, but when we checked before he got his strings put on it was right at 71#.

I just found this very odd.

Something has changed. He should be flingin em faster than that. The SB is no speed demon like your Bowtech but he should still be faster than that with a near IBO setup.

When replaceing the string and cabel , the cam may have come out of optimal timeing , on the mathews . This can account for 10 - 15 fps . If its timed correctly and pulling the weight you say , that is a significant speed diferance . I know my 05 alligence is pretty fast .

I've shot the Switchback and though its not as fast as an Allegiance, its not a slow bow. Perhaps its just his particular bow.

Jason,
To tell you the truth they BOTH look low speed wise…….I never trust those Techno Hunt screens for accurate speed ratings. (They’ll be pretty consistent shot to shot but the actual calibration could be way off) The shop I used to shoot at had one and the screen was 12-13fps SLOW vs their good shop chronograph.

The reason I say YOURS looks a little slow too is that I get 278fps with a full string load (peep, loop, 2 tied in nock sets and leeches) 30”/61# and 407gr arrows.
Backing off a 70# all the way to 61# accounts for some but not all of that difference between mine and yours.

I can believe the difference between the 2 bows as posted, especially given efficiency of the binary cams , but my impression is that both numbers are little low equally.

Truly measure each bows draw weight and shoot them through a reliable chrono………while you’re at it measure the actual AMO draw lengths for the 2, that should trip him out even worse.

So your bow is a little faster, what's the problem? After you guys shoot them for about an hour your eyes will be bouncing around like a tuning fork and he will just be getting warmed up. I'm shooting 274 fps at 70 lbs with acc's 349's. 100 grain broadhead. Switchback with a peep installed.
