I hate this new rule!!

Well, I don't really, but it does sting a little. Last year in Missouri antler point restrictions were incorporated into 29 counties, with the one I hunt in being included. Well, I was out in stand Friday morning, and had the best opportunity I have had all season. I have been hunting hard and seeing deer, just nothing close enough for an arrow to handle. About 8 I saw a deer walking the adjacent ridge. Cool, I thought. Well, the deer turned, walked down the hill right toward my inside corner I am hunting. Even better!! As it nears, about 60 yards, I notice it is a small basket racked buck. Now I am excited. Folks, this was like right out of a textbook. The deer stops at the field edge 50 yards away, and I give a soft grunt on my Primos tube. He turns and heads right at me. He made his way to my Still Steamin scent trail I laid on my way in, and went absolutely crazy. Snortin, rootin around in the leaves, it was great. Long story short, I had several shots at him, but he was deemed to be an illegal buck, so I let him go.
I know this rule is good for the herd, and I actually agree with it, but it sure does sting!! I have never shot a buck with my bow, and that was the best shot I have ever had. Oh well. Keep at it.

I think they need to allow for exceptions. yesterday I saw a 6 pointer that would score 120 and would field dress around 250, at least 7-8 year old deer, however it was on public ground with a four point on one side or better rule. This deer was obviously mature and in desperate need of my arrow, he nver got quite close enough though so I don't know what I would have done

Well, the biggest buck our hunting groups has shot was an OLD mature8 pointer with a 22 inch inside spread, just a gourgeous buck. The wierd thing was he only has 3 points on one side, and 5 on the other with a sweet looking split brow-tine. The buck would have been illegal to shoot which is a shame.
Also, I shot a nice 10 a few years back with 2 busted brows, and his G2 broke off from apparently fighting. So, if you go bythe most DNR rules, this would have been a 7...and deemed illegal.
Im all for QDM, but to implement rules like this from the DNR is just wrong in my opinion.

I here we are getting those restrictions here in east tx too. I am already hunting
a place were we practice similar rules anyway so it does not concern me much.
However I know it will pose a problem for pure meat hunters and youngsters looking
for there first deer. It will improve the deer herd in the future so I am for it.
