Default dumbfounded please advise!!

Well I've been out for the last few days and I am totally mystified. I have walked in on the deer three days...no matter how early I try to go in....its blew at me and promptly left the area. Then one evening as I was leaving the woods (dark) it blew at me. Then tonight ... I had been in the woods for about an hour maybe hour and a half... and the SOB blew. Any suggestions. I am suspecting a buck... since its howing its intelligence. I am not sure if I should call back.... and what call I should use if I do. This thing has me stumped. Please help. Thanks

Well i'm no expert beleive me.If that were happening to me I guess i'd try to determine what the travel route the animal is using and adjust my stand location to be able to get to and from it with less chance of bumping the deer.My guess is your bumping a doe as a buck will only tolerate that once or twice. There is of course the possibility that your hearing more than one deer as well.Seems to be a popular place though,so i'd suggest looking for a less obtrusive stand site that leads to/from the area.Good luck!

You suspect its a buck, since it is showing intelligence!
You better pray your wife does`nt read that one!
It will be alot easier to figure out that buck, than it will be to figure how to get back in the house!

LOL, Big Country!

I was actually thinking doe when I read your post; I've had far more does blow at me than bucks. It's been my experience that the bucks just left. It was the stupid does that tried to alert every whitetail within the county.

Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

Yeah I would think it's a doe and she may have some little ones strapped to her.

In any case, you need to adjust for whatever reason he/she is locked on that route, so throw a change up and you maybe clear.

Ahhhh, forget everything you thought you knew about deer hunting and start over. Obvious the deer know everything you do. You've got to be smarter and move.

I've got to agree with MQ1 and skeeter. Does blow far more often than bucks. Anyway, it would appear that your entry/exit route is going past or even through a bedding area. You may want to make a wide circle to get to your stand. It may take longer and require more walking, but if you keep busting a bedding area there won't be many deer staying in that area for you to hunt. Good luck.

I also agree with Skeeter. If this keeps happening in the future, you will drive the deer away (it may have already happened), you really need to move your stand (or even better, leave it and set up another one) paying very close attention to entry into it (IMO entry into the stand can be even more important than wind direction), and wind direction.

DOE! Change the direction from which you enter the area. If you haven't already shower with scent killing soap, forget the deodorant, after shave, and hair spray. I religiously wash ALL my hunting clothes in phosphate free soap and have sprayed all my clothes with UV Killer and store them in a black plasstic bag with Earth Scent. Unless you are in camp, spray your clothes after dressing with scent killer.

I've had bucks snort at me but it is Very Rare. Snorting is usually a doe.
