Decoys
#11
bigbuck, I read your other post about getting kicked off your uncle's land and where you're set up now... If I was you, I probably wouldn't use a decoy... especially the first time or two I sat that stand. From all that I've read -- and again, no first-hand experience yet -- decoys don't work that well back in the woods. They're far more effective on a field edge where cruising bucks can see them from way off and come over to investigate. Don't ask me why, but the articles said that a deke in the woods was prone to scaring them. Who knows?
If you're set up on a good transition area with a nice trail with some scrapes scattered nearby, I would just sit quietly and wait to ambush your buck as he comes along naturally.

I am not buying a real decoy until I know for shure it will work, so I am just using my 3-D Morrel Target, just for now that is. My friend has a couple of Renzos that he might let me use.
And I won't find out how it works till Tuesday, the wind is horrendous, 42mph, there is no way I am even gonna sit on the ground with that, a tree will probably fall on me.
I am going to put my decoy up in the timber, but I am on the edge of a CRP field, my area in the timber is nice and open too, the deer can see for 100yds or so, and the bucks like to use the woods, instead of crossing right through that field, since most of the does venture right by my stand in the woods!
