Default Thin ice with landowners

My father and I have hunted a 350 acre private farm for the past 10 years. We are the only ones who hunt it except for 2 guys that gun hunt on it. We have a good relationship with the retired couple, but they have grown goofier over the years. My uncle rents their pasture and buildings for cattle and they have begun to grow frustrated with him because he doesnt "mingle" with his cattle enough and they feel he needs a better relationship with them. I know, wtf! We had not seen the 2 guys who gun hunt the property at all yet as MNs gun season opens Saturday. We asked where the two guys had been and the couple informed us that they didnt get permission to come back this year because they didnt appreciate it enough.
Suprised we asked "oh really, how come" They told us that they must not appreciated it because all they received as a thank you gift was some fresh walleye from northern MN. They said we dont like fish and didnt allow them back. THEY WONT LET THEM BACK BECAUSE THEY GAVE THEM WALLEYE WHICH THEY DONT LIKE. I feel terrible for those guys. They were some very nice very respectful fellas.
Needless to say my father and I have our lips glued to their @ss so that we dont unknowinglytick them off. I just hope the resuraunt gift certificates we give them this year arent to a place they dont like! We squirm everytime we give them a gift for fear they wont like it and we will be gone!

I give my farmer my first deer and some cash. It's well worth it to mt to have a great place to hunt.

Wow MNpurple, that sounds like a touchy situation there. Hard to say what will come out of their mouths next. As a landowner, there is nothing that I like better than the people hunting my property to come to my door just to say thank you and how much they appreciate the opportunity. I'd take that over cash or any game any day. My point being that as long as they know that you appreciate their hospitality, it should be fine. By the sound of your post, you are doing that anyway, sohopefully it works out for you.

I'm going to build the property owner a barn! At least help out a little. Then maybe I can hunt out of the top of it. Deer are'nt scared of barns! Ha,Ha,Ha
