Needing Advice, Heading To Iowa
I have a trip planned to Iowa this year. We are planning on leaving on Friday Nov 4th. I could postpone the trip a few days if need be. Is the Rut on?
Weather does look good, but if the action is still not hot, I want to wait. Can someone please advise?
Thanks

I have been hunting eastern Iowa for fifteen years and the rut always seems to start about Nov. 7th. I've been out about every other day and don't see why it would be any different this year. The rut is not on yet. There has been more daytime movement in the last few days though. If you can reschedule your trip somewhere between Nov. 8th - 18th, you would bu much better off. Bucks are not chasing does yet on a regular basis. Good luck!

Well in western Iowa most of the deer are dead so don't waste yer time. No I am sorry theyaren't and they are showing interest in the does. The big boyz are not showing much but the 2 and the 2 1/2 year olds are interested. Good luck, are you using a outfitter or are you hunting on yer own. In any case good luck and welcome to Iowa "A Place To Grow" God I hate that slogan. LOL

Thanks for the advice. We are heading just across the Missouri border into Wayne county.
I really do appreciate the advice. I know you probably frown a little on outsiders coming into your home state and trying to take world class deer but dont feel too bad. It costs us dearly and its tough to get a tag. Its as expensive as a Colorado Bull Tag. Seriously I do appreciate the advice.
So really no chasing in Iowa yet. We are seeing some here in SW MO. Have the serious rub line picked up yet or how about the big scrapes. Not just the scrapes from the 18 and 30 month olds.
Sounds like we might have to postpone our trip by a week.
Thanks for the help.

Get in your truck ASAP, spoke to a friend that has lived/farmed in Iowa all his life. He told me yesterday evening was the best evening hunt he's ever had, 4 bucks in just over 2 hours pasted on a135 class while looking athuge (did I say he's farmed in Iowa his whole life)buck across the CRP. If I'ddrawn a tag I be there alreadythere!

RE: Needing Advice, Heading To Iowa
I was in Iowa this past weekend. The younger bucks were 'bothering' the does, but the does were definitely not ready. However, I did kick up two different 3 1/2 year olds mid day that were bedded with a single doe when I was checking cameras. So this weekend may be the start of it, but postponing a few days might be better anyways.
