Default Buying a Crissbow

hello,

I currently hunt with a horton and am doing very well with it but don't know much about bows, my friend picked up a crissbow for $50.00 and it looks ok but i read on the internet about some serious problems it had... does anyone have one or had one that you had problems with and can you change prod on the bow as it is aluminum and heard it does not hold its strength over time.
thanx

Good grief! A crissbow is an antique. Hasn't been made in a good 30-35 years now, and it wasn't all that great even back then. One of my very first archery experiments was a penetration test. Ipitted a 125 lb crissbow against a 45 pound solid fiberglass recurve. Cedar bolts vs cedar arrows, both with field points at 15 yards shooting into a hay bale. The recurve beat the snot out of the crossbow. The bolts didn't even bury up to the fletches but the arrows went all the way through. I got rid of the crossbow the next day.

Your buddymight can find a steel replacement prod at www.alcheminc.com He'll need to make measurements on the one he's got and try to find one that matches it. Be sure to tell him to get one the same strength as his current prod, or he could wind up breaking the lock.

He'd be better off using the money to buy a cheap compound though, and using the crissbow for a play toy.

You'd be better off just saving up for a new one , you can buy a perfectly serviceable one for under $150 , then upgrade to a better one later .
