i don't mean to sound selfish, i already said that i love to dove and small game hunt, i just don't understand how someone can allow guns and bows at the same time......one it's a safety thing, you aren't required to wear orange during archery, i do but some don't.....i can see it now someone shoots at a dove, hits the guy in the treestand because he didnt have his orange on....
where i hunt , it's quota only....the have 2 , 3-day archery hunts, 1 , 3 day gun hunt,2,3-day muzzy hunts....other than the hog hunts later on you are not allowed to hunt at all......now get this......there is 3 4-day small game hunts, first come first served, no quotas required, that gives the other hunters plenty of time to hunt dove, and other small game...i put in for the quota hunts because of the limited hunting ....believe me like i said i wont be affected by it because i hunt the marsh and dove dont hang out in the marsh, they like the fields and if someone chooses to leave the fields with 5 food plotsand hunt elsewhere so be it, i will adjust....doesn't change the fact that i think it's stupid...it's an accident waiting to happen annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd believe me when i say the community i hunt in has a bunch of poachin' fools, it'll be open season for temptation....i can here them now " hey jr. make sure you bring a slug for me, we can shoot that deerand then stab the deer with an arrow to make it look like i shot it with my bow, man i love dove hunting."....... hate to say it , but it'll happen.......someone getting hurt, it'll happen....me being selfish, i think not....

i agree it's TOTAL BS but then again it's dove season ....i still can't believe they didn't think of the safety issues before allowing this...they should have to hunt the main pastures and stay out of the other areas....hopefully FWC will be out and about so they won't get away with poaching that we know will be going on.

You cant have it all. Sure there could be a safety issue. But the guys who are hunting for doves aren't shooting bowhunters. And the bowhunters most definitely should not be any danger to those hunting doves. If you're in an area where someone is hunting birds or small game then that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

I don't understand the reason to be upset over this. Why should one type of hunter have the woods to themselves? Has it occurred to anyone that there are lots of different small game and bird hunters? What if the rule was that you couldn't bowhunt the rut because only small game hunters were allowed? You wouldn't like it, anddove huntersshould be able to be the same way. This is the time of year to get doves and you won't necessarily get them if you don't get them at specific times of the year in some places. In Oklahoma, bow season is three months long. If every other hunter waited for that to end, they would not get any good fall hunting. I love to bowhunt, but if I am not on private land, I don't think I should get mad that somebody else is hunting small game. This is why I get nervous to take my squirrel dogs out, because I am afraid some bowhunter who thinks I shouldn't be out there will stick an arrow in my dogs who have just as much right to a place as them. When you go out there, if you here some dove hunters, just realize that they are probably having a blast hunting, as much fun in their minds as bowhunting is to you, and think how it would be for them if they couldn't dove hunt, or take their kid dove hunting, because the bowhunters had the market cornered. I do wish you luck though, on your hunt.

now , let's see....a total of 6 days to bow hunt.......then let's go to the dove hunt, you have the 12 days during small game and then the 6 from archery that can be hunted......total of 18 to 6....looks like the dove hunters are favored just a tad...........really don't think that is fair odds at all.....why are they given so many days and the archery hunters not...i do believe if anyone is selfish , it would be them, lol.......yes that selfish comment bugged me......lol..........i think thay should let us bow hunt deer during the 12 days of dove hunting when we can't....without a quota permit, like the dove hunters.....now they need to make it fair for all hunters wouldnt ya think?
where i hunt, you can't bring dogs in the woods unless on a leash if they are tracking lost game, so i wouldn't worry about the archers shooting a dog, but i see your point....but that's not an issue here.
i've said several times, i'll hunt regardless, it still doesn't change the way i feel about this...

The land I hunt here borders the Wolf river. I have to put up with duck hunters every year.

I don't see it as being different than bow hunters being allowed to bow hunt during our firearms deer seasons , what's the problem ?

You got to be kidding me Kevin. How is a bowhunter going to mess up a gunhunter. A bowhunter can be all set to draw back on a deer when Boom, a gun goes off close by and sends the deer to the next county. Now when a gunhunter is set to shoot and a close by bowhunter lets loose an arrow is the gunhunters deer going to be spooked out to the next county? Doutful.

Ill,
During any firearm season aren't both the gun hunter and the bow hunter supposed to wear Orange?
