found out a few days ago about this but was in denial...
they allow dove hunting during the archery hunts where i got drawn for....if the dove are in season, you're allowed to bring a gun, as long as it's centerfire only...no bigger than a 10 gauge.... which comes in....when i'll be hunting...of course this is my only chance to get a turkey and we'll be having dove hunters hunting......who in their right mind would hunt dove when they can bow hunt , worse, who would allow it.....it's not safe for one, it'll screw bow hunting up, and who's to stop someone from bringinga slug with em and popping a buck.... do y'all have any screwed up regulations like this one....i just can't believe it.....the state doesn't have a clue.....[:'(]

that is unreal, not much logic there i would say.

because our archery season opens in september we have to deal with bird and small gamers all the time.
nothing worse then stalking a deer just to have it driving off by squirrel hunters.
thats on public land though, so i do my serious hunting on my permitted private land.

i know what you mean. a few years ago i was fall turkey hunting on state land. i slowly made my way to where i wanted to set up and got all ready to hunt then i see and hear this guy goose hunting 30 yrds. away, just blowing the hell out of his call. he finally got some to come in and i was pelted with raining shot. man wtf

Huntma: that is ridiculous, I would not be a happy camper.

I hate being interrupted by duck hunters while I'm deer hunting, but at the same time I realize that it is PUBLIC land. My passion is bowhunting and theirs is duck hunting... Whatcha gonna do??

Rackluster I heard that is a short drive for you.I know I would be set up on the edge of the thickest cover before light.once the shooting starts the bucks will be headed for cover and I would be there waiting for them to find it.

In Texas, October 29 and 30 - the last weekend of archery season - is also a youth RIFLE season for ages 16 and under. AND UNDER! No minimum age specified. Now, what bowhunter wouldn't love to be all decked out in camo with the woods full of inexperienced kids with rifles.[:-]:eek: I'm all for kids going hunting, but jeez!

Actually, Lone Star Bowhunters Assn got enough people to go to the game commission's public input meetings to raise enough hell to keep it limited to only the last weekend. They were originally going to make the youth rifle season EVERY weekend of our pitiful little one month bow season. We were lucky, I guess.

What irks me even more is the late youth season is carefully scheduled AFTER the close of general season, during the late muzzleloader season. Take the kids hunting, but only if it doesn't interfere with DAD's rifle hunting.[:@] It wouldn't bother me nearly as much if they would also cut 2 days out of general season for the kids.

We won't even mention those 3 year old hunters who are dragging a .300 mag while dad's dragging out a buck.:eek:

Here in Pa there is alot overlapping of gun and bow seasons. Hey they will push the game to you.

I don't understand. A centerfire rifle? How you going to shoot a dove with a rifle. Hell it's hard enough to hit them things with a shotgun
