Just wanted to know if any others out there that ,shoot less than top of the line bows get this to.While I've owned a few brands of bows,I've only owed 1 that,in it's day would be considered a high end bow.that is my circa 92 pearson spoiler.Any way,I picked up a left over Fred bear Quest,It was at a local sports authority store,a disply model. It was just my size and left handed to boot!So after a little dickering with the manager,I walked out the store with the bow for a bit over $75.00.I've set it up with,in my opinion, top of the line accessories,in fact I;ve spent easily 5 times the bow price on parts, but yet when i go to the range (shop) the people there are constantly trying to up sell me to a Mathews,Bowtech, hoyt pick one!
This in spite of the fact, that my shooting rivals some of thier best shooters, with thier $700.00 super bows.I just don't understand why they look down thier collective noses at my set up,and feel compelled to try to get me to spend 10 times more on a new bow?Does anyone else get this treatment? For the record my set up is.......
Fred bear Quest 29in/60lbs(split recurve limbs dual cams)
copper john dead nuts sight
Mirage drop away rest
NAP shock blocker 1000
Alpine soft lock 3 arrow quiver
Sims limb saver equip.(limbs$string siliencers)
Fine line zero peep
Ultra nok XL
True fire split fire release
Cabela's carbon camo arrows (black hawks)
Grim reaper 85gr. broad heads& 85gr. field points

I own a Mattews, but that is for my personal pleasure. Regardless of what kind of bow you own or how cheap it was it doesnt matter. It all depends on the shooter. Practice, practice, practice, and patientence thats what counts. Best of shooting, and good luck.

yup. i shoot league and i shoot a darton maverick. 300 bucks bare, with about 200 stuck in it. I thought about getting something else, but just cuz its more expensive doesnt make it better. its not always what you shoot, its how much and how good you are personally. people get this notion that they need a new more $ Bows cuz they arent good shots. they should just practice, and save some money

sounds like a great setup to me. I work at a pro shop part time and know what you are talking about. We get people in all the time complaining about other shops giving them crap about they're setup and trying to push they're products on them. I setup my dad with a Quest last year and he is crazy about it. He is fairly new to archery so the longer ATA and 8" of brace height really helps in forgivness. A few months ago we had a PWC cam laying around so we installed it on the Quest. The bow is now shooting nearly as fast as my Vortec!! Total cost for the bow without accesories $120. Fast, Quiet, Accurate, Forgiving, what else can you ask for??

Hate to say it, but you might as well get used to it! All of life is pretty much that way. There will always be somebody bigger, better, faster, stronger, richer. You'll always find someone who wants to brag about something, or rub your nose a bit.

I suppose if I owned a bow shop, I'd be trying to get people to buy my bows, even the ones who bought a top of the line bow, last year. Lots of people like new bows every year (some even like several a year<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>). Every person who walks in, is a potential customer. There are nice and subtle ways of doing this and some people are just plain poor salesmen, but I wouldn't blame them for trying.

I shoot an old piece of junk.
It is an Allen Impact that my wife got me used once upon a time (it was old then)It has about 63 pounds actual pull (rated at 65), and only about 33% letoff. It also has a bear shurhit sight that has been mangled in the past. I don't hold for several minutes like many here on this board, and I don't plan on taking any 40 yard shots (note user name--short-range), but what the hell it is paid for, and the old lady still smiles when she sees me use it. If I went and spent all that money on a new bow I would have to work more instead of hunting to pay for it. It still flings them arrows out fast enough to kill plenty.

What it boils down to is hype, money and prestige. There are good bows made by many manufacturers, not just one or two. I wouldn't mind shooting a Hoyt or Matthews but I would not shoot any better than I do now using my current bow. Fact: in most pro shops and ranges, what is selling and making the most money by the owners and its shooters will be pushed. I don't listen to the hype. I shoot what feels best for me, that is what is most important.......not the brand.
