RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
Silent:
First let me say that I'm not just referring to the Shawn Chatam show. And no where did I say anything about people not supporting high fences. My point in all of my previous post is that people jump to conclusions when a show comes on that dosent have the guy/girl/kid hunting the exact some way that they do. Alot of people automatically think the show is filmed behind a high fence or some 10 acre pen. And some of the shows are, but alot arent. Now I'll say it right now, I dont support guys killing animals that have lost there natural fear of humans. And I dont support guys who hunt in small enclosures. I personally dont hunt like Shawn, my hunts are more like what you would see on Realtree or Buckmasters where they are hunting in Mexico and on the Tecomate, El Cazador, or the Perlitz ranch etc. TJF: I know alot of you guys bust your butt looking and hunting for deer. And I know you guys have alot of variables that come into play that I dont deal with. But what I meant is very simple. My goal is to manage and take care of an entire deer herd and the thousands of acres of untouched brush that they live on. Your goal is to kill a particular deer in a particular area off of public land. It takes alot of time, energy, and money to manage a herd. Being able to sit in a blind and look at several bucks that most guys would drool over, is the result of alot of hard work, dedication, and restraint. Our bucks have to survive rut, harsh winters, hunters, poachers, vehicles and predators. Yours have to survive what exactly other then old age?? Ps If you have a picture of 8 large bucks, please post it. I won't take it as bragging... I would just like to see 8 big-uns standing together before I die. :) I remember back in college we would go out and do helicopter captures on some of the biggest and most famous ranches in the state. These ranches brought top dollar when it came to deer hunts and they where, and still are, regarded as having some of the best whitetail hunting in the world. Over the 5 years that I attended college we caught 1,500+ bucks off of these ranches. We might have caught 4 dozen bucks that would break the 160" mark, the biggest I remember catching was scored at 197", he was caught on the King ranch. Fifty bucks out of 1,500+ isint much, especially when you consider the fact that we where on premium property and in some cases using 2 helicopters and 2 net gunners at the same time. Big deer are rare, theres no two ways about it. |

TH, I wasn,t referring to you when I said these guys act like gods gift to hunting. I was referring to certain hunting show personalities. I don,t know you and assume you are a supreme individual. I hope you kill alot of brutes. I have been fortunate to take a couple of big bucks in my 20 pluse years of bow hunting. If I had the chance to bag one every time I went out hunting i would quit. After thousands of hours on stand and that monster finally appears, that,s my idea of a great bow hunt. I remember every second of the hunt where I bet these hunting personalities forget about it 10 minutes after the camera is off. Peace!

I just wonder if when they show people their mounts if they tell them "ALL" the details :i.e how much the animal cost, how high the fence was .... how long they had it for...had it been Vet checked...

RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
TXhighrack,,, Im the 'guy who started this thread" and it has NOTHING to do with "pounding my chest" It has to do with the fact of a show on tv that I found very unethical and not uplifting to the hunting comunity. I also fail to see where people who post pics of animals which they are proud of taking or animals which they get game cam pics is pounding their chest, they and myself are simple sharing with others who enjoy seeing everyones success and hearing about the hunts, this is part of the reason I come to this site. You also mentioned game management, and your right, it is awesome to put in lots of time and effort into your hunting ground and have pictures and chances at bucks that most of the people in your area would be thrilled to take. I put a lot into our family farm, and like to share any pictures and stories with others who enjoy it as much as me, sorry if that makes you think Im braging or pounding my chest.[:@]

RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
Back to the original thread, if the show that was referred to was the one hunting on Redmon's Whitetail Preserve in Ohio............I have to agree that the place is a monster buck shooting factory. [:'(]

RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
As far as Shawn Chatam is concerned, he isn't at the top of my list of "pros" that I would like to hunt with. I have seen several of his shows and they are over the top. To me, hunting is working hard for your animal, not sitting in a tree-top 5 star hotel and picking off one of the 10 monster bucks comming into your corn.
I have no problem with people who mangae their herds and heck, I don't care about high fences (not my cup of tea, but who am I to judge?), I don't care about baiting, ect. My problem lies with his attitude. He simply acts as if he is a whitetail hunting machine where as he is simply put in a spot by some guides. |
