RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
Care to enlighten us? Or at least give us a slight clue as to what the heck your getting at? What I mean is that most people watch a show and jump to conclusions. To most people if the hunting on a show is better then what they are use to, then they start badmouthing the show, the hunter, and the game they kill. They automatically think that the guy must be "cheating" some how, because they are not killing the same size of bucks or seeing the same number of deer that JoeBlow sees on the back 40 or on the over hunted public land that they are use to hunting. Now I'm not just referring to this show, I cant even remember seeing this particular show. But I see these type of threads over and over again concerning just about every show out there. |
RE: Shawn Chatam Chasing The Dream JOKE!!!
Translation, He hunts alot of high fence ranches in Texas. Nobody said anythying about the game these guys take every week. When your surrounded by book bucks because of game management, high fences, feeders, or what ever who cares. just don,t act like your gods gift to hunting because you shot a brute when there were 8 more standing beside him. I have had the opportunity to see and harvest some nice bucks here in kansas. None were ever easy, there were never a group of monster bucks standing together. Two or three fighting at most, and it took countless hours in the stand to get the chance. Just give us one show that the average hunter can relate to. Would I like to hunt one of those places where big bucks are all over? You bet your arse. But the joe blows that put hundreds of hours in the stands year after year to get that trophy will always be my heros and defination of a true hunter.

I'm not sure exactly what you are venting about, but is your statement on your signature how you really want people that don't know any better to precieve your hunting skill and ability????
Put some brown on the ground! |

you said... "Thats called GOOD management. Trust me it takes ALOT more time, money, and restraint to have "8 bucks the same size standing there" then it does for the type of hunting you are use to." How can you say you have more restraint or more time invested then the type of hunting " most " hunters are use to. Some of us don't shoot the first young buck that comes by. We invest a lot of our time in scouting, hunting and passing young bucks in hopes of finally getting a shot at a big buck. Without the high fence or very large tracts of land under complete control, we are lucky to just see 8 170 class or better bucks in our life time let alone standing next to each other. Many of us won't and we are very dedicated to hunting. Our bucks have to survive rut, harsh winters, hunters, poachers, vehicles and predators. Yours have to survive what exactly other then old age?? We have to deal with many things out of our control where your controlled enviroment doesn't. We compete with other hunters, finding access to good hunting ground, hunt pressured deer and ect... You might spend more money ( no doubt ) but you are able to manage your area where "most " of the hunters can't. You need 1000's of acres for that which I imagine most hunters don't have . QDM on 100 acres is a farse, you need 1000's to make a difference. This isn't meant as a cheap shot at high fence nor my way is better then your's... this is just the reality that " most " hunters know and deal with. Tim Ps If you have a picture of 8 large bucks, please post it. I won't take it as bragging... I would just like to see 8 big-uns standing together before I die. :) |

TX,
I understand where you are coming from but you'll just have to take my word for it when I tell you that my reasons for not liking Shawn Chatam have nothing to do with jealousy. You may categorize it in any way that you see fit and that is your perogative but you would be wrong. If Shawn Chatam is your hero then that's great but IMO the guy is a snapper head. On the contrary there are some shows that I really enjoy such as Primos, The Drury's, the Wild Outdoors etc where they all kill big deer and I don't have any negatives to say about those shows except when Jay airs footage of his wife not being able to draw her bow and him having to help her and then her still shooting[:'(] but I digress.;) The reason I don't like Shawn Chatam is multifold. For one I just don't like his personality or his protrayal of hunting. Most of his shots are behind high fences where he is hunting animals that he is paying thousands and thousands of dollars for and he exibits little if any skill in doing so. On one of his episodes he sneaks up on a 400 + class elk through the leaves making enough noise that your average grizzly bear would have run away and hid, yet this unpressured high fenced elk just stands there looking at him.....................WTF................ that is not an accurate representation of hunting elk. Any bull that lived in the wild to be a 400 + class bull did not do so by beeing as stupid as this elk was. But then again you aren't going to realistically see 400 class bulls in the wild. The other times you see him he is in a box blind same ol thing he is behind a high fence again and out comes another 180 class buck and he shoots at it and half the time it's a shot that should have never been taken and the next scene is him standing over his trophy class animal:eek: I just think he and that type of show are poor examples of the hunting community. I don't have a problem with the Primos guys and the RealTree guys going to a high fence ranch occaisionally for a hunt. I don't have a problem with it for a couple of reasons. The first of which is that the high fences they hunt are normally several thousand acres not smaller enclosures. The second of which is that they do not spend the majority of their shows hunting high fenced enclosures. The final reason is that even when those guys are hunting those areas I get the impression that they are seasoned professionals doing something that they love and that they are good at. I get the impression from Shawn Chatam that he is a jackleg spoiled little rich kid that decided having a hunting show would be cool so he got his daddy to pay for it and it only keeps his interest if "hunts" somewhere that he knows he can kill a trophy. To him it only appears to be about the trophy. Now these are just my opinions but I don't want him representing me to the non-hunting public. You can try to work that around in your head to try and justify your assumption that all of us that don't like his show are just jealous but it's a bit naive considering there are several other shows that I do truely enjoy where they also kill big deer and elk. I simply feel like they do more to earn them than he does and they are better ambassodors of the sport than he is and I feel like they have more engaging personalities than he does. I know you are a high fence advocate but your blanket assumption and accusation that everybody that doesn't like a show is jealous is just as bad as those blanket assumptions by those that are just jealous. |

Some of these "fake" shows need to just be taken off. I dont see how they even get on the outdoor channel.
