I think shining should be banned here in Wisconsin....To much poaching going on with the use of spotlights. It is difficult to identify poachers vs. legal shiners. I don't see it as being very useful for scouting anyway. Maybe if you are looking at what animals might be using a propererty but thats it. Pretty useless otherwise.

Spottin' is what we call it, and its a blast.

Legal in NJ as long as you have NO weapons in your vehicle. Great way to keep tabs on bucks, and find nocturnal bucks that are feeding out in fields. All you have to do then is figure out where they are coming from and going back to, and you might have a good early morning, or late afternoon spot to get a crack at him.

Its also a great way to get a rough estimate "head count" of the deer in your area.

Someone mentioned its a great "date", but I havent met a girl 'round here yet that would go spottin with me....girls with a red-neck side are few and far between around here. Im S--- out of luck when it comes to girls that like hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors...

So what time do you guys go out spotting?

1:00AM seems to be a great time to see the "Bigguns" around here.
But a lot of our spotting is done between 9:00pm and 12:00am.

What candlepower spotlight you all using?

I just got a 3million CP this past year....I used to use those rechargeables, but they always wear out, so now I just have the type that plugs into my trucks cigarette lighter. That thing wont get dull till the truck battery dies...hehehe

Ok.....well, have fun and keep it legal.

Have a good one---Matt

Oh I almost forgot....that smiley face thing at the bottom of Datamax's posts is hillarious.

You have the one guy sitting reading the new Cabelas archery catalog, and the other guy is trying to "hold it together" while banging the bathroom door down. LOL.....OUTSTANDING!
