Will be buying my first bow in a few days. I know that I need my " draw " length measured , but are there any other important details to consider ?
I dont have the cash for a Parker or Matthews ( just bought a new 7mm mag )
and was looking to spend less than $300. Any advice is appriciated.

My best advice is to find a bow that is the right draw and poundage for you at a good proshop and shot it if possible and if he won't let you shot it find a differant proshop that will let you shot the bow before you buy it tell him the price range you are looking for but a little higher than you plan to spend say 400 in your case than ask him if he has a carry over from last year that is simaler to it and who knows he might have one and you can usually get a carry over cheaper than a new 2004 bow good luck

I bought a PSE Nova last year, and it's been an excellent bow. I've heard others reccomend it around this site as a good **beginner/starting** bow. I'm not certain, but I wanna say that it cost me around $270 for the bow.
EDIT:
I went and found the receipt to the bow, and it was only $179 before accessories...which make me like my PSE Nova even more

I just got the 2004 PSE Nova with the Lightning 3 cam and love it. I got the bow for $199 from EZ Livin Sports Center. They set the draw length and draw weight to what I specified and shipped it to me in 3 days. I would find out what draw length and weight you want to shoot and check out their website. They are very helpful and will answer any questions you might have.

PSE has a lot of bows for under $300 like the nova, dakota, and bruin. Martin Jaguar is about $280. Browning rage is under $300. All of these are good bows but my money would go toward the MAartin jaguar. But only you can decide if it is for you.

Slugman,
Try to shoot different cam designs too. Round, oval, hard cams, singles, doubles, cam & a half, they all draw & shoot differently. Find the one that is fun for you to shoot. Also are you shooting with fingers or a release? That will factor in to aid you in the ATA length that would work best for you. Good luck in your search.
