i was told early born fawns end up breeding that same year in the 2nd or 3rd rut. something about it that creating a cycle of small weaker deer going into the winter next year. i guess this would vary by region.

The fact that he chooses to take young deer is not the issue. I will also take young deer to thin the herd but I don't go online bragging with a "I'll drop anything under my stand" mentallity. Please don't give the anti's any more ammo than we allready have.The young and weak are the first to go , thats nature, but the anti's only see spotted fawns in a zoo or petting farm setting where they are fat and healthy. They don't see them starving in winter because of too little food or the coyote tearing up a fawn.

As much as we hate it, we must watch what we say or do as not to bring hunting into a bad light. They make us look like heartless killers, we don't need to help them with statements like, "ima hunter, i kill, i dont care what size it is."

Nothing wrong with harvesting fawns. They are a legit and legal target. Most game managers prefer the young to be harvested rather than spared for many reasons. First in the wild they do get killed by predators, second in northern climates an orphaned fawn many times dies over the winter and third in some cases where the population is stable or on the down side letting a breeding doe survive produces both a deer in the freezer ( the fawn ) as well as a pregnant ( the adult you passed up ) doe meaning 2 or 3 deer in the spring. If you are a trophy hunter who won't take a smaller animal thats entirely your choice but don't try and make someone feel low for practicing perfectly legal and sportsmanlike behaviour. People hunt to eventually kill animals. Some couldn't care less how big or how much they can brag about the kill.

In Reflexkiller's defense, there's absolutely nothing wrong with killing young of year deer. It may rub the wrong way with horn hunter's and the politically correct, but he's being honest. IMO, every deer taken with a bow is a trophy and I will not hesitate to put a fawn in the freezer. Unless it's was born late and still has spots, I draw the line there

I would guess that any die hard PETA member will hate the fact that one hunter chooses to shoot a doe that may be pregnant as much as they will hate the fact that another hunter shoots this years fawn as much as they will hate the fact that another hunter won't shoot anything with less than 140" on top of the head! PETA REALLY doesn't care what animal it is that we as hunters choose to kill. Most places have antler-less tags, so what antler-less animal a hunter choose to put his/her tag on should be accepted by all other hunters!

I've often wondered how many guys tought that a mech. head is inferior do to "moving parts that can fail", but yet the same guys have fall away rests!

IMO shooting fawns is unethical. Sorry, that's how I feel.

I dont shoot fawns, but around here it wouldnt really matter. I dont have a problem with someone shooting fawns, as long as they can distinguish between buck and doe. The doe tags here are labeled Doe/Fawn. Its not like they have a Fawn only season, now that would be unethical.

I personally have no interest in shooting does or fawns - nor do I like to watch Ted Nuget shoot does on the Outdoor Channel. But it needs to be done, for the good of the herd, in some instances.

That's all they see any way so it really doesn't matter if you shoot a fawn/ yearling or a 170 class buck. To them they are all cute little spotted fawns sucking mommas milk.

A fall away rest moves just like the regular ole TM hunter. It just moves in the oposite direction. Nearly all restshave movingparts it's just a matter of which direction they move.

But to have moving parts that are only heldin placewith a singlesmall screwand then torequire that partto smash through shoulder bones and ribs is a different story all together.
