In that price range, some proshops might have last year's models or trade-ins on top line bows, or a good Diamond package, etc. Worth calling and asking and seeing what they have.

I agree with the guys saying go shoot as many bows and decide. There are dozens of great bows out there to choose from that are in the range you are looking for.
You can get a package bow or get the accessories independantly. You may save a little getting a package bow.
Just don't get sucked in like I did. Started off looking for a bow around $500 set-up and now I'm arround $1,000 in bow, accessories, and toys.

well, last week I had the same thing, a 12 year old bow to replace and not being able to decide what to buy for my hard earned money...
so, I asked the guys on the forum about the new bowtech Tomkat....
and after reading the comments Iwent to the shop, tried a few other models, PSE and browning and diamond
but for the money, the tomkat's the best buy in my case....
in three words;
swift, smooth and silent......
grtz

Also in a similar position so I went out last night and after going through everything in the under $600 range it came down to two bows, a Ross Archery 33xx?, and the Bear Truth. Finally picked the Truth, just felt a little better andliked the looks/colors a little more,but honestly,almost anyof the bowswould have made me happy.They all seemed VERY similar in feeland light yearsahead of my old deer hunting package bow. Tried the top of the line models of each line but too expensive and just didn't seem worth the money. Law of diminishing returns aptly applies to bows.Good luck with whatever you choose.

Shoot as many different bows that you can get your hands on. Even the ones that you don't think you'll like or can afford. You may be surprised at which one you will like the best.
Also, if you possibly scrounge more money, do it. The difference between a $500 bow and a $700 bow is huge. Many people will slam me for saying this, but I used to think they were just as good when I had a cheaper bow. You truly get what you pay for. Sell something if you have to, but consider buying the best you can.

I started thinking $750. for a Diamond Liberty Timberline pkg, and now, about $2,000 later, I'm ALMOST ready to hunt! Much of that cost isn't necessary to hunt, but I managed to convince my wife that it was.[8D] (J/K. She knows me too well. She just lets me have what I want.)

Littlechief,
There's nothing wrong at all. I still ahve about $300 worth of toy to buy to complete my new set. It's all MDBUCKHUNTER's fault. We started talking and now it's a competition to see who buys more gear. Or, even who's gear get's delivered sooner.
Being single, it's either spend it on toys or save it up for a wife to spend it on in the future. I prefer to buy all the toys now.
