Alright WVMtneer, it's been 7 weeks since the post. Are you still shopping and if not what did you end up with and how do you like it compared to your old (un-named) dinosaur?

IMO I would get a Browing Myst they are a very light and quick bow I got mine about 4 months ago I went to the dealer shot it and fell in love with it. They arealso not really expensiveI paid I think $450 for abrand new 2007 with everything on it.

No reply from above so I assume you are still shopping. There's a pretty good pool of bows on the market to choose from so like folks are saying "shoot as many as you can to help in choosing one". In the $ range you are talking you should be able to come up with not only a bow but one that has some decent accesorries on it as well. I just picked up a Hoyt Powertec (not top shelf as Hoyts go ) and absolutely love it. I can see hunting with it for a # of years if I choose. Good Luck!

LBHunter, I see you as about xx08's Ithaca. I've got a 16 GA. deerslayer (w/multiple barrels) that has to be 34 yrs. old if I remember right. Just curious as to your asking.

I shoot the Ross 334. I love it. I think that it has a far smoother draw cycle than the hoyts. The bowtechs are also good bows but short and I am a tall guy so 34 is about as short as I can go. The new cardiacs are a nice bow and they have picked up the speed with these over the original line of ross bows that came out. These bows are ready to hunt with from the store. You will not be disappointed with one of these bows, but you still need to shoot a variety to get the one that you like best not what i say or your buddy thinks.

I just went though the same thing last year and ended up with a Hoyt Lazer Tec. Very smooth and quiet, not as fast as the high end bows but a very good hunting bow shooting about 226 fps with hunting weight arrows.

I'm over 6'2" and have a 30" draw and use the Allegiance. 3/4" isn't that much. I wouldn't go shorter than that though.

I have a TomKat and really like it. Its in your price range and thats fully loaded and ready to shoot. As said by many others, just go shoot some bows and see what you like.
