Guys, mine friend shoots these heads and I'm tring to make him switch to a different head. These are the one with the bacon skinner blades. Over the last few years he has shot them with 100gr and a 29in beman ics hunter 400 and he gets no penetration at all, but he loves the look.Last year he shot a good buck right behind the shoulder, i was taping him, easily a lung shot and the head wasen't impressive, we lost the deer, very little blood. With his setup he should have no problem shooting thru deer, heck he's pulling back 65lbs. I'm tring to tell him that there are better heads out there. Can anybody help me with advice on these heads , the pro's and con's of these. He loves them because his only deer in 15yrs of archery hunting he shot 2 years ago with them, lost 6 deer with them, I think it's time for him to change but cannot convince him, seak advice, Thanks guys.

I hate to say it, but if he's lost 6 deer to Rocket Ultimate Steel heads with little to no penetration there's another issue other than the choice of broadhead. I don't particularly care for the blade retention on the Ultimate Steel, but the tip is sharp and the blades are scary sharp. They penetrate well.
How well is his bow tuned?1 deer can be a mistake, 2 deer could be a coincidence.........6 deer is a serious problem and I wouldn't look 1st at the broadhead.[:-]
I'm sorry but I don't buy 6 deer hit perfectly and all 6 lost due to broadhead. It doesn't work that way with ANY head.

I gotta agree with Matt here.
If he has lost 6 deer the broadhead aint the problem. I suspect that the bow is seriously out of whack and the arrows are not striking the animal straight thus not penetrating. I would give his bow and total set up a serious going over and really tune it to get perfect arrow flight.
While I don't particularly care for the heads either (mainly due to very little thread engagement) they will penetrate right through the biggest animals this continent has to offer and keep on going.

I'm not asking for you to buy anything?, just some advice on how to convince him on why he should switch heads. As for the deer it true, like it or not. Yes he's got a lot of issues with his bow, that I'm helping him with, but he's stuck with these crappy heads and there are a lot better out there. The Pro's and Con's of this heads are?

lou-lou, sounds to me like they did answer it. Pros- Good tip, scary sharp blades. Cons- sound to me that you want them to convince "you" the broadheads s#*k! The problemdoes not liewith the broadhead. I shot some last year and the onlyissue "I" had with them was durability. LOL.

Like we said, those broadheads will go through anything that walks this continent with ease provided the arrow is flying true.
This is the entire problem right here.
Get all of these problems worked out and he will be just fine.
If he likes the heads then there is no reason he shouldn't shoot them and switching to another broadhead ins't going to solve anything at all. Get his bow tuned like it should be and he will have no problems with penetration with the ultimate steel heads.

With all the other heads on the market that fly just as good as field points and have a bigger cut than 7/8 of an inch why not shot a bigger head that cuts more and flies the same. This is whatI'm trying to tell him, I feel that he could improve bloodtrails and confidence in his ability to harvest deer. It's like what 5shot said, use the biggest head you can that will fly for you. So why shoot a 7/8 in head when a head with a 1 1/8 like a magnus stinger will fly the same way? Bigger head, bigger hole, more blood.

Yes there are better heads on the market but what we are trying to get across is that the broadhead is most definetly not the problem he is having with penetration.
If a 7/8ths head isn't penetrating then he has big issues elsewhere. Forget about the broadhead and focus on getting his bow and him shooting the best they can.
Get that fixed then talk to him about broadhead selection. Let him read all of the broadhead posts here.
Here is 5Shots review of the heads.

I would have to agree with the consensus that has been handed down concerning the "issues" your friend has.
That said I do feel there are better heads for the money. Perhaps they have improved the blade retention since I tested them a few years ago. For me the best testament there was to NOT use them was to practice with them. I could break blades off in a foam broadhead target after just a few shots. In my opinion that is unacceptable in a fixed blade head.
So if your buddy favors small heads and wants to stay with them,I would get a number of your friends together and each purchase a package of heads like a Rocky Mountain Ironhead, Turbo, or a NAP Nitron, perhaps a Sonic, or Slick Tricks, etc. and spend a few hours shooting those head to head (no pun intended) against the Ultimate Steel. I have no doubt he will see a difference.
Good luck.
