Buffalo bullet in 225grains.
I have 49 rounds of the buffalo sabots given to me by my father in law in the 225 grains. He's had this box of rounds for 10-15 years. He only shot one deer with them but he said the bullet left a hole in the deer that you could put a baseball thru, and that I should use the pellets. He is still trying to push the pellets on me as though they were the "it" for muzzleloading. Personally, I like using the loose powder to determine my exact load combo. For one reason or another he has given up ML hunting. Thats another story though.
My question is, how well will a 225 grain sabot (buffalo bullet) take down a deer and with what powder combo should I start with. I fired it one time and used a 110 grains of BM3. Although there was a lot of smoke and took about 10 minutes for me to see my target I was wondering if there is a charge that I should start with. I will be using this round out of my Omega and CVA Buckhorn. (both .50 cal)
In archery and hunting (ML) I believe that heavier is always better than light and faster.
Maybe I'm wrong as these two hunting styles are for the most part different.

I've bought some of the same bullets. They are a 225 grain pure lead .451 diameter hollow point boattail design. I have not had a chance to shoot them yet. I want to start them out with 100 grains of Goex 2f and see how they will group.
I bought them because of the design. I think they would make an excellent long range bullet. And if they hit anything going in, they should really make a hole coming out. I also got some in 252 grain, 302 grain and 375 grain. I have had some excellent luck shooting the Buffalo Bullets...

With a similar weight XTP bullet (230 grains), my Omega liked 95 grains using 777 FFF & 45-cal Harvester plastic sabot. Tried it out to 150 yards..... 3" or-so high@100 ... about dead nuts at 150. Your Buffalo 225 is very similar to the Precision Keith Nose bullet.... big-time mushroomer. I see that bullet sells for around $16 for 36-pk at most Ganders & Cabelas.... even on the net over at http://www.thunder-ridge-muzzleloading.com. That's an excellent buy.

J&D Hunting & Muzzleloading is where I buy my Buffalo Bullets from. They normally have great prices, and sales every once in a while. I think the the 225 grain sell for around $14.95.
I bought five boxes of them when they had a sale for $9.95

I was kind of surprised you didn't Triple Se7en. After all I always come to you to learn about what projectile will shoot good out of my rifles and where I can buy them the cheapest. Just figured I would throw out that link since you forgot....

Maybe I should start shooting these sabots that I have instead of trying to find more. Wait--I've been waiting for my finger to heal. It's been 3 weeks and in the past two days I've gotten to where I can have feeling in the finger back to semi-normal and without sharp pain if something touches it.
I will look at the website provided and get more rounds as I shoot them off. So this bullet will be a great bullet for deer--thats what I am reading. Hate to admit that my Father in law might be correct. Maytimes we butt heads, but we get along....for now.
