Default Rings/base for Omega question? low -vs- med

Sorted thru all the topics and got some good info from all of you. I think I'm going to order the Talley one piece. It comes in low and medium. What is the difference and what is typically ordered or standard for most of us???
Thanks Guys!!!!!!!!

TWANG,

Unless you plan on removing the iron sights, I strongly recommend the medium rings. If the scope does not clear the iron sights, you may not be able to get the scope forward enough on the Omega to provide a safe measure of eye relief--something very important on a muzzleloader. I have Leopold detachable QRW high rings on my Omega. These rings enable me to get the scope forward enough to provide me 4 inches of eye relief and give me a clear view that is unobstructed by the iron sights. Another plus is that the front of the scope clears the rear sight by just enough to allow me to easily get the scope cover on and off my scope.

Good luck and good shooting.

Best Regards,

I've got the Leupold QR base and went with the QR high rings.
All I will use is Leupold QR or QRW bases and rings.

your ring heights are with the QR:
Low: .65
Med: .77
High: .90
As you can see, there is really minimal difference between medium and high rings and the high allows that extra scope clearances.

This allows me to leave the iron sights on and adjusted in the event I need to pull the scope in the field, or if I just want to hunt open sights by simply removing the scope.
