RE: Dead Center's vs. Hornady SST's
Has anyone ever compared these loads for accuracy against each other?? Using either loose powder or 777 pellets??
Both bullets are highly accurate in most guns. The heavier weight Dead Centers (300-360) seem make Knight bores happier than the light ones. Hornady SSTs & the supplied plastic sabot are hard to load in most MLs. Plastic sabot changes to Harvesters or MMP HPH-24s help reduce grunts & groans. Cabelas sells the Harvesters. MMPs can be purchased online at mmpsabots.com. You must request the thin HPH-24s by phone only. Tell Del Ramsey I said hello please.
If you buy the SSTs that are 40/50s with the blue sabot & have difficulty loading them, you can contact Cecil Epp by phone at prbullet.com & request the plastic sabots he uses on the Dead Centers for a replacement. Cecil may agree to it.... & he may not! Let me know by a personal message if he does please.

RE: Dead Center's vs. Hornady SST's
I've shot & tested the 300gr SSTs and both the Precision 300gr Dead Centers and the 300gr QTs as well. Both the SSTs and the QTs shoot marvelously out of my Knight USAK - they will cut 1/2 inch or tighter groups out to 75yds with great consistency. With the Dead Centers, I have not been able to find a load that shoots them consistantly - nothing between 80 and 110gr of 777 will make them group less than 1.25" for me.
On my recent Chronograph test, using identical charges of 80gr of 2fg 777 powder, I've found that the SSTs were both the fastest and most consistent:
Bullet Avg Velocity Extreme Spread between shots
300 SST 1490fps 8fps
300 QT 1477fps 105fps
300 DC 1452fps 104fps
For the record, the first 3 shots I ever took with the 300gr SSTs cut 1 ragged hole at 50yds with that 80gr charge. I've had the 300gr QTs cut a .274" group at 75yds too.

RE: Dead Center's vs. Hornady SST's
250gr and 300 gr SST shoot very well in my Remington 700MLS, I settled on 100 gr T7 loose with 250 SST as it gave me the best accuracy and still provided the trajectory I wanted for hunting. For S&G's I had some pellets and tried 100gr behind the 250 SST, accuracy was good. I have tried Dead Centres in a couple of grain sizes and variety of powder combo's without success. Haven't tried the Qt's yet.

RE: Dead Center's vs. Hornady SST's
I have shot both dead centers and Hornady SST's and I find that 250 grain SST's shoot better out of my guns then Any of the PR bullets do. Also the SST's cost less then the PR bullets.
