RE: barnes expanders
Here are some pictures of a 405 gr.copper clad aerotip PB I recovered from an elk, found lodged just under the hide on the far side.Shot was at about 25 yards it hit rib on both sides, shot from TC Omega with 95 gr. 2f 777,I shoot hornady 250gr sst's normally for whitetail with great results, but in Co. sabots are not legal to hunt with.As you can see the PB held together and had near 100% weight retention.

This past ML deer season I shot a large doe 75yds. walking away
from my stand 295gr. aero-tip powerbelt. Two 50gr. pyrodex pellets.
I was using a 50cal Knight. Shot her just behind the right sholder
bullet exit hole was in the left side of her neck. She staggered for
approx. 15 yds. fell stone-cold dead. For your information my
Knight, for some unknown reason, doesn't like the hollow-points.

If the shock waves shoot good for you I would use them.I have taken several deer with the sst and shock wave from 48 to 234 yds in 45 caliber and 50 caliber, all complete pass throughs.
Just saw in the new T/C catalog that they have a bonded shock wave this year. These may be the way to go too.
Never did get the powerbelts to shoot in an encore ,but they did well in a knight 45 caliber (225 grHP) took one at 155 yds with it and complete pass through.
The 250 gr barnes works great, but shot a big 8 pointer using the 195 gr barnes,@70 yds,no blood or hair, found the deer about 4 days later.Nice 8 pointer with 17 in spread.Won't use those again.
