I am looking at a cva pro magnum I know nothing about black powder muzzle loaders!
From what I read this is a great gun for the money and it fits my buget.
becuase I am a novice here I need a little help do you feel this is a good buy

that is an excellent choice for a novice and even more experienced black powder shooters

One of my hunting buddies just purchased one of these rifles and added a Bushnell Dusk to Dawn scope. It's a nice shooting gun and if I didn't already have a CVA Firebolt, I would be looking at this gun. The only thing I would recommend, is don't go to 150 grains of powder but use 100 to start.

I have enjoyed mine. It shoots very thight 100 yd groups (it shoots better than I can) with a 200 gr bullet and 100 gr of powder. Great gun for the bucks, both brown and green.

Tomster is right. I also own an Optima Pro. I called CVA and the tech guy told me that it will indeedh handle 150 gr of BP or Pyrodex but 100 gr is all you need. More than 100 gr is just a waste.
Mine shoots 245 gr Powerbelts very well with 2 - 50 gr Pyrodex pellets.. The fiber optic sights are excellent and cloverleaf groups can be expected at 50 yds.
One note of caution however. To keep your rifle in top shape. After a shooting session, be sure to take the forearm off, break open the action and remove the barrel from the receiver and wipe it off. Its amazing how much powder build up occurs under the barrel. Its mostly just smoke but it is still corrosive.
It only takes a few more minutes during cleaning.
And be sure to get youself a good quality breech plug grease and apply it to all the treads of the breech plug prior to re-assembly.
