Default Letter To Savage

Received my Savage ML II last week with, SS barrel and laminated stock, cost $499.95. I took it out of the box looked over good. This is the first time I ever saw A. Savage ML II. Except on the Internet and in a Hunting magazine, can't find one in a gun shop. The next thing I read all the papers that came with this gun. Then I took it apart and put it back together, I did this several times. Each time I did this the action would come to rest on a different part of the stock. I didn't shoot this rifle, I thought it would be a waste of time. In stead I took it to a gun smith I am having the third pillar installed and the action glass beaded and barrel floated. Doing this will give me peace of mind if nothing else.

The Savage ML II overall is a good looking rifle but I didn't buy it to look good I bought it to shoot good.

Savage if you make any more changes in this rifle it should be to add the third pillar, it needs it just for the cleaning of the breach plug.

If it shoots as good as it looks when I get it back from the gun smith, I will be happy.

I have a savage 30-06 and 2 ML's, an in-line and a flint. My opinion is that if I spent about $500 on a new rifle, that it would not have to see a gun smith for many years to come. All of the guns I bought were between $200 and $350 out of the box, and they shot great.

If you would have fired the savage ML after removing it from the stock it ends up at the same place each time .I don't remove the barrled action from the stock to clean . I have shoot both 777 and some of the recomended smokless loads ,I am the limiting factor . My Savage ML is dead on at 128 yds ( my backstop is 128 yds) ,getting 1 1/2" groups with my hunting load.

If you haven't shot it, how do you know that the stock pressure is even an issue? You might be spending a lot of money to fix something that isn't broken.
