Default One load for deer and Elk

Im shooting CVA Optima Pro with 777 and Power belts. Id like load that I could use for both like 100g 777 and 295g HP Powerbelt.
Any sugestions recomendations would be apreciated.

You might consider a 348 grains Aero Tip in the powerbelt with 100 grains of Triple Se7en. This would stop any deer or elk. Another load you might want to consider is the 300 grain Hornady SST's in a black high pressure sabot. I would think you could try them in the 100 grain range and they should stop anything also. What your looking for is penetration and those two mentioned will give you that. They both should be a good long range type projectile. I have a CVA Staghorn and it shoots then excellent. Good luck with your rifle.

Start with 90 grains loose 777 powder and 295's or 348's and shoot a 3 shot group from a bench. Then repeat with 95, 100, 105, 110 grains. Probably one of those combinations will be fairly accurate, but each gun is different and you have to find your gun's sweet spot. Any of those loads will do the job for deer and elk. My gun like 90 grains of 777 with 348 gr powerbelts and I will be using that for elk next fall.

like the previous 2 posters said, I would personally bump up the weight of your pb if you are elk hunting. I won't say that a 295 grain pb isn't good elk medicine, but bigger is better in my book

I am assuming you are shooting a .50. If so, the 295-grainer is on the light side for elk. I'd use a 444 grain Powerbelt for elk and anything as large or larger! The 295-grain is OK for deer and smaller. What I said goes even more if you are shooting a .54, since the sectional densities would be even lower if the bullet was bigger around at the same weight! You COULD use the 444 grainer for deer, but it would be unecessarily HEAVY for ordinary whitetails. You could certainly use 100 grains of 777 FFg with any weight of Powerbelt, so even changing bullets would not require you to change you powder measure setting. However, the points of impact of the different bullet weights might require a sight adjustment. Have to shoot 'em to find out!
