Default .62 caliber smooth bore

Tomorrow I will go out and try this .62 caliber smoothbore and see how well it can throw some big lead ball around. I also have some shot I want to try working up a turkey load with it. I figure it should smooth out somewhere in the 80 grains of FFg range. How do you measure shot when you do not have a small ounce cup? Someone told me you could measure about the same amount of lead shot as you do power, and come close to being right. Any ideas?

I use the same measure for powder and shot. 1 to 1 ratio seems to give the best balanced loads for me. I shoot a 20 bore fowler.

Thanks Charley... I tried some #4 Buckshot. I loaded 70 grains of Pyrodex RS and 70 grains worth of #4 Buck. Needless to day it was only 20 pellets for the load. I shot at a pepsi can at 25 yards and hit about five of them in the can at that distance. I noticed the pattern was spread out pretty good in the snow, so I will make some paper shot cups and see if I can not get them tighter. I am going over to a friends and get some plastic 20 gauge shot cups and some #6 shot and see what other loads I can make up.

ive shot a 12 gauge blackpowder shotgun and ive figured that if you use the same measurement for shot and powder and keep it to medium loads that usually turns out great patterns

From all I have read, that is the general rule of thumb.. Then they fix the patterns through powder charge and shot cups. I am having a lot of fun shooting the smooth bore. What kind of range to do you get with your loads out of that 12 gauge?
