smooth bore

RE: smooth bore
I shoot a smoothbore .62 caliber. I load 80 grains of Goex 3f an over the powder card, then a fiber wad, the ball, and finally two over the shot cards. Accuracy is exceptional until you get around 40 yards. After that the very tight group it will shoot opens up to 6 inches and bigger. I shot once at 75 yards and could not keep them on a 8 X 11 sheet of standard paper.....
They are a lot of fun to shoot without doubt. And when that .600 diameter 324 grain ball thumps down range there is a lot of energy there....

RE: smooth bore
Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering at what point the group would loosen up. I have fired a single shot percussion pistol and I was surprised by the accuracy of it on a 25 yard range.

RE: smooth bore
I've got a 20 bore fowler I shot ball in as well. I don't use wads for ball, simply a cloth patch. Accuracy is good to 40 yards, loosens at 50, and then gets iffy. Fifty yard groups with my gun will run about 5 to 6 inches, good enough for whitetails or bigger. I've got some paper cartridges made up, haven't had time to test them.
