T/C .45 Omega
#1
I have a T/C .45 Omega with a 3-9x Simmons Scope. What would you guys recommend for (1) Sabot type and size, and (2) Load size for Whitetails? I have never really hunted with it but would like to next year.
Also,
Would you ever use the full 150 gr. charge that this gun is capable of shooting?
Thanks for the input!

I have a .45 Omega that I got in December and although I haven't gotten to do any full load workups, so far its doesn't seem that I will need anything more than maybe 120 grain tops. I have had good results with 90-100gr of 777 and pretty good results with 2 50gr Pyrodex pellets.
I am still buying every bullet/sabot type I can find locally to see what works well but when it comes time for deer season my money will be spent on bullet of roughly 200grains that shot the best in my rifle. I am getting ready to order some sample packs from PR Bullets in their Dead Center line as they are supposed to shoot well. Time will tell I guess. They do offer both a .40 cal. bullet and a .357 cal bullet saboted for the .45 so I will have some options to play with anyhow. Other than the Dead Centers I am hoping to try the Hornady SSTs in 200gr.
Cabela's 2004 shooting catalog offers all the bullets I listed above though you can get the Dead Centers in multiple count packages from PR Bullets and save some $$$. I you are a pellet shooter the Cabelas catalog also offers the new .45 777 pellets. I haven't tried those myself but I am happier with loose powder thusfar anyhow.

My friend just got one of those, and we are planning on doing the same thing. Gonna get several different bullet/sabot types and test fire them to see what works best. So far we have both been shooting .50cal, and only use 90grns (I use 777, he uses pyrodex RS), with good results. Of course we are also gonna try some new loads in the .50cal too. Best advice is to try several different bullet/sabots and see what shoots best in your gun.

Just got one myself, 200gr. hornady sst with 110 gr. triple 7 shot 3/4 in. group at 100 yd. up powder charge to 120 gr. triple 7 opened up group to 1 1/4 in. also tried precision rifle 240 gr sabots with groups in the 2 1/2 in. range, but the sabots were flying apart, with a different sabot they may tighten up. if you want to try a heavier bullet the power belts in 275 grain with 2 pyrodex pellets shoot around 1 1/2 in. groups out of mine. If you load them much hotter the plastic on back of bullet will blow apart and will not shoot very accurate. To get these groups I had to run a spit patch between shots and the first shot out of a clean barrel is always off a little.
