ffg or fffg??
I have a Lyman Great Plains flintlock that is slowly nearing completion. I am purchasing items for shooting it one at a time now. I bought some ffffg the other night for priming but don't know if I should start with ffg or fffg. The literature that came with the gun said that either can be used.
Which one should I try first? I'm not concerned with maximum loads or high velocities, just concerned about getting accurate loads.

In all my traditional ML's I have always used 3Fg. 45cal to 54 cal. The black powder club I shot with always ordered 3Fg instead of 2Fg.That all we ever shot with and had excellent results. Ruger Redhawk

Briman I used to shoot 2f all the time, and when I went to this muzzle shoot at this club everyone was shooting 3f. So I bought some and have been shooting it ever since. I like it better in the winter also, seems to ignite better. Zeak

Greets,
Well gee, I bought 2fg for my .50 when I bought it, and kept getting the 2fg for any serious shooting and hunting work. BUT I had a can of pyrodex P ( 3fg ) left over from my .36 navy days, I use it now in the rifle simply cause I ran outta 2fg, maybe I will do some real target shooting with her to see if it is better with that stuff. Best I got with the 2fg was 6" groups at 100yd, course I was pretty naive about BP then and was loading a higher charge than really needed just for the extra hit.
Just my uneducated opinion!
