After I shoot my encore, the action will not open(99% of the time). If I re-calk the hammer and pull the trigger on the spent primer, then it will open. Has anyone had this problem,or heard of anyone who has ? I have tried CCI and Federal 209 primers, and cleaned the firing pin and got the same results.

I would contact T/C and advise them of that. That is a nice rifle. I never heard of that happening before. Perhaps there is something wrong with the rifle.. Better to be safe then sorry. Besides that is a pain in the you know where...
It sounds like when you fire the primer is backing up and there for blocking the action from opening. When you re-cock and then fire again it resets the primer back to where it belongs and then it opens as normal..

I have a Thompson Center Encore and use Winchester 209 primers in mine. No problems so far. That being said, I'd contact Thompson Center. My dealer, as well as from what I've read on this board, they have excellent customer service. Give them a call.

How old is your Encore? When you do get it open is there drag marks on the face of your primer?
I had a similar problem and the solution was to replace the firing pin spring. After firing it was not retracting.
Good luck, HTH.

Steve has probably nailed it - the firing pin spring. That spring should be aligned cone end to cone end (that will make sense when you look at it). You may also need to thoroughly clean the firing pin assembly and perhaps pollish the firing pin a little. Could be a burr or something on the striking face of the pin that is grabbing the primer.

I did take the firing pin apart and cleaned it.I felt a slight bur on the pin. I called Thompson, and they are sending me a new firing pin and a new spring free of charge. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
