On your review of the New Knight Disc Elite, you stated that the Knight shot sub zero groups, with the 405 grain Power Belt' s,and no Barrel swabing through a 100 shot' s.What Powder or Pellets were you using, and the charge weight? Sincere Thank' s!

I hope I said sub-1" groups at 100 yards-- that was with both 348 gr. and 405 gr. Powerbelts and a pair of Triple 7 pellets.

It did better than that with 220 gr. Dead Centers, shooting consistent 1/2" groups with T7 pellets or 90 grains T7 loose, with a few 1/4" groups here and there. The gun is far, far more accurate than I am-- and is not just the most accurate Knight I' ve ever tested, but the most accurate out-of-the box muzzleloader I' ve ever shot.

Cecil' s site is at http://www.prbullet.com.

I' m not sure if you mean the XTP or the newer SST' s?

The Hornady XTP 240 pistol bullet is a proven deer-getter, but the Hornadys I' ve tried are much harder to load than the Dead Centers. They shoot " okay" on the Knight, but nothing spectacular.

The pure lead Dead Centers are more consistent in grain weight, easier to load, and have higher ballistic coefficients than the Hornadys-- and most everything else.

In general (very generally speaking)-- I' ve had the best results with pure lead-- meaning the heavier Powerbelt conicals (348 or 405 gr.), the heavier Buffalo SSB' s ((375 and 435), and the Dead Centers-- with the Dead Center 220 / 240 and .44 caliber 300 being the pick of the litter.

The two bull caribou taken 2 weeks ago were with 220 gr. Dead Centers, the Russian boar shot last Saturday was taken with the 300 gr. Dead Center.

Randy I have been shooting 240 XTPs for years and yes they have worked wonderful on game, accuracy is decent as you mentioned. Anyway to my question I have some 44/260 gr dead centers, I noticed you mentioned the 220/240/300 version. Just curious did you not try these or found them to be less accurate??? I am going to head to the range tomorrow to give them a go after work. I have just switched to a 209 primer setup and am tinkering with 777 Pellets (2 - 50' s). I am working on a load for whitetails and mulies, FYI.

Thanks for your response.

For caribou, I wanted the flattest shooting load I could come up with-- and the 220' s were it. You lose the high BC of the .40 cal DC' s by going to the .44/260, and no-- I' ve not tested them.

For boar, I wanted more bullet weight, and was less focused on max. point blank range-- so I went with the 300 / .44. I' ve not tested all the Dead Centers-- when I started doing so I was running them though 10 different muzzleloaders, and with other brands of bullets to test as well-- just could not do them all.

Thanks for your response. I hope they preform, but it is always fun just tinkering so whats a few bucks, my 240 XTP' s still perform well so no biggie if I have to stick with them for now.
