I do not think Lee and I know that I do not think the total problem is because of Rem Oil. But anytime you use a product in the bore that contains a Teflon products you can run into problems with added fouling. Teflon burns and creates a sticky substance and over time as you continue to load the bore with Teflon it will all add up. The occasional shooter might no ever notice it. If you were to discuss this with a competition shooter most would tell you the same thing - do not use a product with Teflon in it. I would go one step farther and say in a muzzleloader - do not use a petroleum product in the bore at all - use a synthetic oil like Montana X-Treme, Slip 2000, or Ezzox and I am sure there are others.
And again after several years and using many different product - this is my opinion only. But you also have to remember I was one of those that used BB for years because of its abiltiy not to leave a sticky burned substance in the barrel. In fact still use it in my Trap chokes to reduce plastic fouling.

I wouldn't go so far to say that Rem Oil ISN'T the problem, but with my experience with the product, if it happened to me, I wouldn't be suspecting the oil as the problem. Ironically enough, a couple years ago I helped a buddy out who was having this same problem with is Wolf and he used no oil in his gun at all.

I've always used Ballistol in my sidelocks. More because they use black powder than anything else.
In my inlines I use Remoil. The same as my CF guns. I do clean it out with alcohol before shooting. I thought I was getting it all out, but now i'm not sure.
It doesn't seem to affect my first shot too much. I've shown this target before. 100yds. First shot is the lower right shot. Next two are fouled barrel. BH 209.

Understandable. I've also heard that Remoil causes the Crud Ring with 777 as well but I've never experienced that either. I would not say that I go through as many pounds of powder in a year as some of you guys, but 4 or 5 in a year is about normal for me. I think environment has more to do with it than people give credit for. i.e. humidity, altitude, heat vs cold ect.

I would not say that Rem Oil causes 'crud ring' I would say it can contribute to the existence or the build up of the ring.
Now here's something to ponder. As most of you guys know, I've been using Liquid Wrench as a patch lube in all of my ball guns. I have not experienced any fouling problems with it. Nor any first shot flyers (though I do use an alcohol patch before loading). Go figure!

So I called CVA today and was told to return the gun after the season and if they found the POI to be different from a cold, clean barrel vs a hot fouled barrel and the difference was significant (over an inch or two) then they would either replace the Optima or give me the credit towards an upgrade!!!!!!
Now, which CVA to upgrade to???????????
